Aurora Colony Quilt Show

This quilt was called Temperance. I thought it was a Double T but maybe it is the same.

Look at this unique hand quilting!!

The reds were full of meaningful stitching. I liked the quilt from a distance, but loved it close up!!

This old wool quilt was made by a colony member. It is so simple but so charming. I thought it was cute how they had it displayed.

These beds were set up upstairs in a room as they would have been when the Colony was in full motion. The quilts are obviously not as old as the commune.
The main museum. Most of the historical displays were covered with hanging quilts for the show.

The old grist mill. That's a bed hanging out in the background. I'm sure thankful for mattresses!
Woodworkers shop.

And herb garden. It was a beautiful day for a drive and walking through the town.
More quilts tomorrow.

  1. Oh, I haven't been to the Aurora Colony in years -- and even longer since I've been to a quilt show there! Thanks for putting that back on my radar.

  3. ooough what a pretty wuilt that you saw! I love the pattern and the colors - and on one of the close up photos of the hand quilting - it appears that they traced their hand and stitched the outline among the other quilting - is that what you saw too??

  6. I was there with family on Thursday - actually got my 86 year old mom to her first quilt show. Did you see the quilt in the main building in the room to the left that had each solid block quilted differently? It was awesome! I always enjoy the Aurora show - it's just big enough.

  7. Oh...looks like a really neat place! I just love the quilt hanging on the old headboard! I think I'm going to have to go check out a few of my favorite second hand shops and see if I can find one!

  11. Just found your blog - love all your photos of the antique quilts. You are right about the Temperance quilt - it also goes by the name of Double T & Imperial T. I made one a while back and thought it appropriate with my last name initial "T"
Thanks so much for the close ups showing the clever quilting designs. More inspiration!!!When I owned my quilt shop it was called Heart and Hand - what fun!

  13. Instead of the same quilt design I LOVE the way they quilted ALL kinds of designs - hands, scissors! - in the red blocks. I'm definitely going to do this in some future quilts.
