Churn Dashes & Nine Patches

Here's what I've got so far on my churn dash quilt. All the blocks are made it is just a matter of putting them together. This has been put aside for now while I finish up another project for a wedding gift.
While at the "antique quilts for sale booth" we saw this wonderful double nine patch.

With tiny pieces! We figured they finished at 7/8".

My friend Kathy, loved it so much that she dropped her churn dashes like a hot potato and quickly made up a couple of small double nines. Hers finish at 7/8" too!
She has a nice collection of blue and whites and she was continuing the theme with both of these quilts.

I hope you are all having a nice weekend. It is beautiful here. I planted 2 plants of zucchini and have quite a few. I am going to make zucchini bread today and have grilled them a few times this past week. Does anybody have any great healthy recipes they'd like to pass along to me? I'd sure appreciate it. Next year I think I'll just plant one!!

  5. I learned that with cucumber plants. LOL. Both the quilts are cute. Blocks that have small bits of fabric in them do appeal to me. You do such a nice job creating your quilts.

The birds and slugs are eating all my zucchini so far - maybe I should find recipes for eating the flowers.

I like zuchini peeled and cut into chunks, add some fresh tomato, and basil. Simmer a few minutes then sprinkle with parmesan cheese. Yumm.

  29. Hi, I lurk on occasion, to enjoy your work. Cut your zucchine into long strips, like a lasagna noodle. Then use them to make lasagna with. I learned that many years ago at Weight Watchers. Liz

  30. Hello,

Try cutting your zucchini into strips lengthwise and use raw instead of lasagna noodles. I learned that many years ago at Weight Watchers. Liz

  31. Love your churn dashes and any blue and white blocks are wonderful!. One of my coworkers has a friend who planted six plants so you can only imagine how much she has! So she decided to have her first annual zucchini cookoff. She invited six people over and they made appetizers, main dishes, and of course, zucchini bread and cake. She says they plan to repeat this next year!

  32. hi Lori! That double nine patch is wonderful!

  33. Lori, love your website. Saw something this morning on http://www.quilthollow.com about making five nine-patches at one time using a strip method. It would make the nine-patch quilt go together pretty quickly with a little math re-do. Scroll down past Bonnie's picture to see the info. Keep up the great quilting and entertainment! p.s. my zuchinni hasn't started producing yet . . . i know it's supposed to be an easy one but i always have a hard time with it.

however in years past when i had some that i didn't want to eat immediately i grated it up and put it in the freezer in pre-measured containers. when i want to make some zuchinni bread i just pop it out to defrost and add it to the recipe. it seems to make a moister loaf when used this way too.

  42. What a great post! It is all I can do to keep myself sitting at the computer to finish this comment. I want to run into my sewing room and get out the churn dash blocks again. Thanks, too, for sharing your friend Kathy's version. My post this week has me thinking about the indigo churn dashes. And that 9-patch! The consistent colored centers makes it pop. Yes, I will be starting new projects today. After all, it's raining.
