Weekend in the Mountains

Hubby hasn't had a weekend off since June so we threw a few things in the little pickup and left town on Friday for a getaway.

Here's a fun lake way up in the mountains that we like to go to.

The last 30 minutes is a lot of climbing. We leave the junipers behind and get into beautiful tall pine trees.
We caught a few fish but slept little. I'm not used to the hard ground- top that off with a little sunburn and aching muscles from an aerobics class.....well, you get the idea. None of that kept Porter from napping...

I had really good intentions of doing a little hand quilting on a vintage block I thought I'd turn into a little quilt. Can you tell what important thing is missing?

THREAD!?!  Oops.....

Beautiful getaway spot, and your pup looks so relaxed. Blue and white - yeah!

Beautiful scenery Lori, looks as though you had a lovely time, and Porter as well!!!

Haha ... ooops indeed! Lovely outdoors and Porter looks so contented!

Love that you took Porter on the boat. Cats don't do so well with that. :O That's why I hate packing up to go somewhere. I have to take three suitcases or I miss something important.

Maybe it was just a weekend to relax and have fun. Hope you got a nap like Porter.

What a beautiful spot for a weekend getaway... maybe invest in a blow-up mattress? I'm too old to sleep on the ground no matter the setting!

Love the vintage top you picked up. Thanks for sharing - don't find stuff like that here very often so it's nice to share your experience.

I second the airbed suggestion--the only way I can camp anymore--but then I am old.
Sounds like a great get-away, even sans the thread.

Don't you just hate it when that happens? But you're in good company because I'm sure it's happened to most of us! :)

Sheila said...

Oh well....you can sew anytime....you can't always relax on the water. :) Looks like a great time.

You pooch looks like the sweetest dog! He looks so comfy!

Sometimes it's good to do more relaxing while on a weekend with the hubby! Gorgeous scenery - I miss it! I'm in the Chicago area now, so no more mountains for me for quite a while.

I'm chuckling about the thread missing and instantly thought if desperate enough start unraveling seams on clothing for the thread! LOL
A getaway sounds lovely.

Cute little quilt and that's the sort of thing I do! So I try to have stuff ready in a bag as a take along project and not borrow from it!

Enjoy your getaway!

What a great getaway. Love the scenery. Porter looks very comfortable. The blue and white looks great. I've forgotten something everytime I've packed up some hand work too. Hugs

the good news is that you were in a lovely spot - plenty to enjoy without the quilting *s*

Oops! Looks like a wonderful getaway spot - no better place than Central Oregon. The vintage block looks like a quilt-along idea, no? ;-D

Kyle said...

Your vintage blocks are fantastic. Great fabrics, both the blues and the shirtings. Sorry you forgot your thread.

What a wonderful quilt block! How annoying to forget thread - I've done that too. I look forward to seeing the block again as a little quilt! :0) Looks like you had beautiful weather for your getaway.

Looks beautiful, but I'm not big on ground sleeping either. Love Porter - what a fluffy love of a dog.

ah crap~!!~
i guess you were just supposed to enjoy the scenery . . .

my missing item is usually the readers that i now REALLY need to be able to sew. didn't always need them and still haven't gotten the hang of always packing them along.

Oh, I love those kind of weekends! Beautiful scenes...and dog...and quilt!!

That was my worst nightmare when I went on holiday, that I would forget something I really needed. Like I forgot the most important embroidery silk... Fortunately I took something else to do too. At least you were just away for the weekend. Did you catch up on what you wanted to do?

I always take the kitchen sink with me and then end up never using it all. Sounds like you had not choice but to totally relax.

What is the era of your vintage block? Early 1900s? I have an old top I bought that seems to have some of these exact fabrics in it. The block... and the scenery are all winners.

You know, there's nothing out here to compare with the mighty pines of the West. You cracked me up with the missing thread. Oh well, going with the flow is just like you. Porter! Napping? Well, even the saints needed a day of rest. heh.
