I Love Vintage Quilts and Blocks!

Look at this lovely old quilt block Karen sent to me!! It is just one little block, but isn't it precious?!  I think I am going to take it apart, set it again so it has a few seams and make a decorative pillow.  Love the red and green!! Thanks again Karen.
Nicky asked me how I was coming with the bow tie quilt. Well, here is a photo of the vintage one seen at Sisters during the quilt show.
 Look at the fantastic fabric!!
Some are a little crazy too.
It looks like I have 21 of them made. Bonnie challenged us (me) into using this one as a leader/ender project. At this rate, I may have 40 of them done before July. A few test blocks were made using different cheddars, but I do plan on using solid cheddar for all of the rest.
Part of the reason it takes me so long.........

Have a fantastic weekend!!!

Very sweet old block from Karen. What a treasure!
Thanks for showing us how things are coming along in the bow tie department. So I am not the only one who finds a different way to sew the simplest things together? That is encouraging! : )

That last shot made me laugh. *Been there, done that!*
I thought I might work on the cheddar bowtie project, too. I read about it when we were in the middle of our move and promptly forgot all about it. Thanks for the reminder.

:-) last photo looks like my cutting table some days. I made a ton of log cabin blocks as leader/enders, it was a great way to get the centers all started on the 144 blocks I needed! Have a great weekend.

I do love your quilts! That first block is just beautiful! Love that pattern too.

The cheddar is so nice in your quilt and your blocks are coming along so nicely!

Love the cheddar. I just don't get tired of that color.

Hee!! I love the way you made that last block...looks vaguely familiar to me. I too just adore old blocks and quilts, they are just so much fun! I have my bowtie cheddar and blue quilt cut out...you know I won't be able to do it as a leader/ender!

I think I agree using one cheddar will be better in this case.

Great cheddar - thinking we all need a bolt in our own stash!

Sweet vintage red and green basket - if it could only talk...

Janet said...

I LOVE the basket block - both the red and the green are such great fabrics! I can see why you want to take it apart though - not a lot of seam allowance is there? I had a good chuckle at your last picture - I think we all do that on occasion. :0) What a gorgeous vintage blue in the bow tie quilt.

Y'know, I didn't think I liked cheddar, but the more I see of peoples' cheddar bow ties, the more I think they are SO DARN CUTE!

What a wonderful antique block - love it! You will have to post pictures of it again after you give it a re-make. Way to go on the bow ties - I am making them too, but not with cheddars - just all scrappy. They are fun to make - until you have to un-sew!

Love the solid cheddar. The vintage block is adorable.

Love that vintage basket! Too lucky, what a gift! I love all the cheddar and the bows. I'd keep all the cheddar.
I have a stupid question, what a leader and an ender?

That's my kind of bow tie block, Lori! What's the problem? Vbg

great block!! love it.
your bow ties are looking great

I'm on the Bow tie challenge too. I've made few like your last pic and had to "Frog" them. That little 3" seam doesn't take long. Mine are all scrappy with a few Cheddars.

The vintage block is so sweet on it's very own. <3

Love the vintage block too! Can't beat red and green :)

Love your bowties! I had the same operator error when I was making a bowtie quilt last year :)

How cute is that Lori! What a nice gift! I love the bow tie quilt block, and the cheddar is great! I think we should come up with a new pattern using the bow tie block and call it mac and cheese! In our spare time :) hope your weekend is going well! pam

Vintage quilts--and single blocks--just get my heart going pitter pat. Lucky you with the block from Karen.
I'll join the growing chorus of comments re: your last photo -- been there, done that. Sounds like a wonderful name of a select group of quilters -- the "Been There, Done That Club."
