La-la-la-la-Bom-Bom-Bom

Thought I'd show you the little bit I've been working on that is not BOM related.

This is a challenge. The center is to the left, the blue and half square triangles are attached. Somehow I am going to work in the green, black and orange.  I'm falling for the autumn colors, can you tell. I'm having fun with it since it has been awhile since I've actually sat and sewn at my machine.

What I am going to try and do today at the machine is hem 2 pairs of my mom's pants. Pretty exciting huh? She is losing weight pretty fast and I'm trying to get her to wear some clothes that aren't 10 sizes too large! She won't wear these pants because they are too long....I offered...my fault.

I have been working on the first border of Beyond the Cherry Trees- just prep- nothing exciting yet, although I did make a very long bias stem:)

Oops! BOM time! This is block number 10!! it is October, the 10th month, so I would say I'm all caught up. This one looks a bit boring but all together it will fine. Look at the block below and see if you can answer a question...
This is Jan Patek's block. Does anybody know what the 8 thing is in the upper right hand corner? Neither hubby or I could figure it out so I left it off of mine. I am really curious though.
Anonymous (who are you?) said the 8 represents eternity. So far that is the best answer I've heard. I really think that it is. I still plan on leaving it off of my block though.

I'm not sure I mentioned it on this blog (I did on Get to Goal) but when I was sick last week I slipped and fell down the stairs while in a groggy state. I landed on the landing....I wish it had only been 4 stairs. Anyways I told my hubby that the wood he put down was beautiful but if I was dead I wouldn't be able to enjoy them at all. So I ordered these braided rugs the day after my fall and installed these 4 this afternoon. My back and tailbone are still very sore so I will let him install the other 8. I love them and know we will all be a bit safer too. Thank you to Libby at Plain & Simple for the recommendation of Country Wares. Service and communication was awesome! (her name was Lori too- an added bonus!)

It is almost the weekend. Have a good one!!

The eight thing is intertwined rings. I actually cut them as two pieces and intertwined them when I made that quilt and it's obvious what they are. If it's done as a single piece it doesnt look like rings at all.

Christine said...

Are they wedding rings?

I like the green circle-dot with the orange! Glad you weren't badly injured in your fall. That's so scary!

I am so sorry you got hurt! Pretty staircase and cute fall decorations though....

Ouch! I really like the look of those little rugs on the steps. i'm going to suggest them to my sister. The fabric looks interesting. Hope your tailbone feels better soon.

The BTCT border looks great, even if it is jst the pattern paper pieced together. I know just seeing it here on your blog nudges me to get back to that project...
You are lucky it was just 8 stairs! So sorry about your fall, though. The little step rugs look great!

Love your new stair rugs - and you're SO busy with all your sewing project. I'm sure I could get a LOT more done if I stayed off of this danged computer! LOL

I fell down my stairs last year and they are carpeted, but I really like your little rugs. If my stairs were wood I would sure use those!
Even knowing what that "figure 8" thing is on the Bible block, I think it looks good without it.

Karen said...

I had wondered about the 8 also when I was cutting out the shapes for my block. I had forgotten about it until you mentioned it on your blog. Now I understand that it is joined rings. I may leave it off my block too.

I fell down stairs twice years ago and they were carpeted. Serious hurt to the tailbone area. If I had stairs now and they were wood, I would have those little braided things too. So cute. I would be in serious trouble if we still lived in a two story house because of my knee replacements & back pain.

The sideways figure 8 represents eternity.

I would go with the eternity thinking on the figure 8 thing too. I keep missing my bottom step and twisting my ankle, messing up my back, my kids tell me if I keep falling they are moving me out of my grandma house. Be careful!

I slid down the stairs years ago on my bottom, carrying a box...all the way down. I broke my tailbone, and oooh it hurt so terribly. At the time I had a small infant and a 2yo. I crawled to the phone and called DH at work and told him I broke my butt.. he said, "What do you want me to do?" I said I don't know but you need to come home and take care of the baby.. I know they can't cast my bottom, but I can't stand, I can't sit.. Oh it hurt. Please feel better soon!

That orange fabric is awesome!!! And the stair treads look great! Glad you weren't hurt too badly on your fall....that can be really scary! And I'm glad you are helping your mom to look fabulous in her new size! Is she trying to lose weight, or has she been sick?

Yes you do need rugs, lol. We have a double stair since we are a split level and had to get a large set, love them. I got mine on ebay, but nice and prim. Lots of wonderful new projects, you have been very busy.

Isn't the eight thing the mathematical symbol for infinity?

Looking forward to seeing your finished challenge quilt. The braided rugs look good on the steps. No more falling down the steps, ya hear? It will probably be quite some time for the tail bone to quit hurting if you landed on it pretty hard.

Vivian said...

Hopefully your braided rugs will keep you safe, and vertical, as you go up and down the stairs. I've slid down steps a couple times after losing my footing in sox, bouncing on my tailbone--luckily no real damage. Just a bruised backside and a bruised ego.
Your post title intrigued me, but I misread it. I thought you wrote "la-la-la-la-boom-boom-boom." I was anticipating a song. (I think I need to catch up on some sleep.)

Great fabrics in your challenge block. I recognize a couple. I like teasing photos on blogs, like your first one that hints at the center.

Janet said...

The eight thing does look a bit strange if you didn't know what it was. I think your fabrics look very halloweeny, great.
I assume your rugs are attached to the steps? I'm sorry you got hurt, tailbones are pretty painful when they get a bashing.

Janet said...

I am very curious to see what you are making! It's a great mix of fabrics you are using. I'm sorry to hear about your fall - your stairs look very pretty now too.

Ellen said...

Wonderful fabrics! Sorry to hear about the fall - hope everything heals up quickly.

Nicky said...

Poor you - Lori - hope you can sit down comfortably!

I think it could be the maths symbol for infinity too!

So sorry about your tumble down the stairs - that is awful! But...your little rugs do look wonderful!

oo beautiful stairs, particularly nice with the life-saving rugs :-). I'd like to see more photos of your house!

Darlene said...

Ouchie!!!! I'm glad you weren't more seriously injured.

Busy days at your house! :-)

Kyle said...

Sorry that you slipped and fell. Love what you have been working on. Just keep doing those sweet things for your mom.

Library Gal Quilts said...

good grief! That is so scary! I really hope you feel better soon..those kind of injuries take time to feel better! Your staircase is really beautiful, and the rugs are very cute. I slipped and fell at the Farmer's Market last spring on something and I was down in a split second! xo Pam

I'm so sorry to hear you had a tumble, hope you are feeling better. I'm going to post as soon as i finish here. Love your bom now that I have seen it all together, it's super nice.

Mary said...

8 is actually the symbol for infinity. Since God is infinite, it makes sense to me. I hope you're recuperating quickly. Falls, especially on stairs, can be really painful.

Barb said...

Your challenge looks interesting - can't wait to see more!
I ordered those braided rugs for my 2 sets of stairs for coco - they are great and have held up great!
I wonder if the 8 is a yoke?

Bobbie said...

Oh, sorry to hear that you fell down the stairs. I hope your little stair rugs prevent any future slips. And they are so darling too.

Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration.

Libby said...

So glad you got your treads. We came to our first purchase of them in much the same way - Hubby surfed down the entire 15-stair flight on his tailbone. It wasn't pretty. Love how sure footed we both feel now *s*

Maureen said...

Hope you are feeling better. Those stair mats look very good and safe, too!
Look forward to seeing your challenge - love those vibrant fabrics.

Wendy said...

We have stairs like that, I always have to wear slippers when going up and down. I'm so loving all the autumn colours.

Miriam said...

I do hope your back is feeling much better now. Glad you have those braided rugs in place now.

The EIGHT is for Enternity. Life is based on 8's. A fun read talking about 8's is called THE EIGHT by Katherine Neville. It talks about what else The 8. ;o)
