We have been having some beautiful fall weather. Temps are down in the 30's at night but high 60's and sunny in the day. What an amazing fall we've had!!

Isn't this adorable?! Once I get mine made it probably will take on a bit more primitive look. My stitches are not quite as even and neat as Elizabeth Ann's. She was generous enough to share a pattern (she designed!) with me. You can see all of her wonderful creations at

Hey, lookie here! It's Linda Collins. I had the pleasure to meet her in NYC for the red and white quilt exhibit. We had a lovely meal at the Russian Tea House. How fun to get the most recent issue of Quiltmania and get a tour of her beautiful home!!
I recognized the maker's name of this quilt too. Bev Bannard!!I met her and her spunky daughter at the Russian Tea house too!! What a gorgeous quilt!!!
I have never met Kate in person but we read each other's blogs. I was pleasantly surprised to see her quilt in the magazine too!! Woo-Hoo!! Not only does she have a quilt blog she has a fitness blog called Crunch Time.  Check it out and give her a little encouragement.

I've had this magazine for a couple of weeks now but just the past few days actually gotten to read it. Some of the quilt shops I would love, but what is with the patterns they are giving us? I think I only like one of them in this issue. Is it because they are trying to make such a unique pattern that they have to make it ugly? Or use ugly fabric? Just thinking aloud......

Have a wonderful day!!

  1. What a cute little pumpkin cushion. Primitive is good.
Those are amazing quilts. Wow! As for me and my house, we will try to be content with our "humble" quilts. : )
Didn't buy the magazine. Don't remember why, now, just know I didn't. I'll have to look at it again next time I am in the store and see what you are talking about.

  2. Beautiful quilts! Really amazing!
I bought that magazine at the store because of the cover. And like you I was greatly disappointed in the contents.

  3. LOL...I love it!! And I aggree....magazine patterns are getting ugly in an attempt to be unique!!
That may be why I tend to favor the antiques

  4. The pumpkin pin cushion is adorable. I agree, the quilts in BH&G are terrible. Some don't even begin to represent the shops fabric. Will think twice before I buy the next issue

  5. Love the pin cushion, fun pattern.
I haven't bothered to get the new BHG issues, I like the old ones better.

  6. That is an adorable pumpkin pillow - and the quilts - yummmmm. I agree with you on the magazine - nothing grabbed me. I've been disappointed in the last several quilt samplers - I think there pictures of the shops are getting fewer and fewer. Used to be much better back in the beginning - gosh does that make me old, lol. Thanks for the eye candy

    Hugs- Karen

  7. Love your wool cushion!! SEW cute!
I also didn't buy this magazine or their last!! I was so disappointed with the patterns! They have GOT to pull up their socks!!

  8. I've bought the Sampler magazines in the past without even opening them first. Not this time. I'm curious to see what's inside, considering your viewpoint and comments that agree with you.
Beautiful quilts you're sharing today, and the pumpkin project is sweet.

  9. How wonderful to see Linda on your blog!! She is such a lovely person and such a treasure in the quilting world. Quiltmania is one of the best magazines on the market these days. I wonder if some magazines don't seem as exciting anymore because we get to see so many amazing quilts on the internet?

  10. Lori...I agree with you about the patterns in the Quilt Sampler. I usually can't pick which one I want to do first! Oh...congrats on your race...great job!

  11. Be still my little heart - that yellow quilt is awesome, does it have a name? It is quite an honor to be called girlfriend BUT honestly you can do pretty little stitches too..... tyvm....

  12. Lovely quilt photos..........I also
agree. Used to buy them sight unseen but now I page thru the Quilt Samplers before I buy as the quilt patterns are usually not appealing.

  13. I love that applique quilt on the yellow background!! It's unsual and has so much movement. The pumpkin project is just perfect for this time of year - very cute. Quiltmania has gotten very difficult to find here. I miss looking through/buying it. I guess I just have more money for fabric instead...

  14. Hey Lori, thanks for the promo!! LOL Bev's quilt ( the yellow quilt) is a design by Di Ford. l don't know if the pattern is still available. Hope to meet you again one day soon!!

  15. I did not buy the magazine this go round as I think there was only one quilt that would interest me enough to make. And now I don't even remember what it looked like.

  16. Great quilts you showed and Quiltmania is now the only magazine I'm interested in. Was just going through my old magazines recently and the earlier Quilt Sampler issues were so much better! I bought this issue too, but was really disappointed in the patterns. APQ seems to be trending towards more modern quilts, so may not renew my subscription.

  17. Oh Lori your little pumpkin cushion is adorable. I love it!!!!

I feel the very same way about the latest Sampler magazine - didn't care for the patterns. It was very disappointing to me. JMHO!

  18. I bought the quilt sampler and was disappointed too but it isn't because the quilts are ugly. . . it's because the patterns are so simple, there's no challenge. Anyone can cut out big pieces of fabric and arrange them into a pattern and sew them together. I'm looking for a pattern that is unique to that quilt shop or unique to that part of the country. Unfortunately, everything just all blurs together.

  19. cute pumpkin cushion & wonderful Quiltmania quilts & designers....now if memory serves when the shop hop magazine first was out, it was published only once a year, no quilt design was required by the shop and it was very hard to get your shop in the issue (you needed your customers to send in lots of requests as to why your shop deserved to be included) i know this because back then i had an awesome quilt shop that was never included....now there are too many issues per year, quilt design is required and it all becomes redundant, just because you own a shop doesn't neccessarily mean you know how to design....although i strongly believe more designers the better, obviously gives us more choices and makes other designer needing to stay creativly fresh....and along that same line, just because you design quilts doesn't neccessarily mean you can design fabric and i feel that be overdone also....
    wow now i've truly vented....

  20. That is one cute pumpkin cushion. Love it. I also loved the quilts from Quiltmania magazine. I'd love to find out where I could get Di Ford's patterns here in the states. Right now I'd rather buy Quiltmainia magazine than the Sampler, even though it's a bit more $$.

  21. Have not seen either magazine yet, but it looks like the Quiltmania will be on my list. And the pumpkin pincushion is to die for! I'll be checking out her designs.

  23. Isn't it fun to open a magazine and know someone who is featured? Linda is quite prolific and makes such great quilts.
The quilt on the cover of the new Sampler is nice, I think. In general, most quilt magazines have gone to super easy, super fast quilts with not much creativity. Of course, there are exceptions. Sure wish there was a magazine devoted exclusively to repros, though!
    Cute little woolie!

  24. I usually buy the Quilt Sampler magazine because I like to see where shops are - that I might visit in my travels, but I have never made any of the quilts. I agree that there aren't many that I would want to make. I kind of like the cover quilt of the latest issue. You can't beat the antique quilt styles.

  25. OMG! I love the red, yellow, green applique quilt by Bev Bannard! I found the patterns in the latest issue less than inspiring also.

  26. Hey Lori, I agree about the magazine so now I don't buy them unless there's at least 3 patterns or projects that I absolutely love.

Sometimes I think they use the same quilts just with different fabrics. There's no "uniqueness".

  27. What a great pumpkin pin cushion! I just love all things Fall - and agree - the weather has been just wonderful. Also agree on the patterns in Quilt Sampler - so many of the shops look great, but the patterns are a bit disappointing, but I still love to look through it.

  28. I totally agree on Quilt Sampler quilts. They are AWFUL. I did like the cover quilt, but that was about it. I only bought the magazine because a shop 1.5 hours from me was featured. I know a local shop was featured once. She said they have about two weeks from the time they are notified that they were a selected shop until the time they have to have a finished quilt to them. Unless the shop has an in house designer, for some, that can be quite a feat. Some shop owners have no design ability but they have awesome merchandising ability. A great shop needs both. For the most part, I don't purchase Quilt Sampler anymore.

  29. I love the pin cushion. Very sweet. Thank you so much for sharing the quilt pictures and the story of meeting the makers. I loved your last post too. The antique quilts were to die for. Hugs.

  30. Love the little pumpkins,so very cute.
    What pretty quilts.
I didn't buy the magazine either. I have actually been disappointed in the last few issues. It does seem to me that some of the magazines are not as good as they used to be.

  31. Love the pumpkin wool treat! It is really adorable. Thanks for showing the talented quilters you met in the mag. I was also disappointed with this last Shop Hop issue. Usually I love lots of quilts but not this time. I do enjoy reading about the shops and owners though.

  32. I noticed the same thing about the patterns. That, and that the ones I like are remakes of common blocks but those were the patterns I liked best. I don't have Quiltmania yet - guess I'll have to search for a copy. The quilts look amazing!

  33. love that big four block! what a stunner.
I'm so dissapointed with magazines anymore. They are all more or less the same, or trying too hard, sigh....
The pumpkin wooly is soo sweet!
I just got the new mag. Primitive quilts - it's so/so

I still can't get my "you might also like " button to work
    :( waaa
