Sisters Quilt Show Tradition

I love this sign that is big and direct! It reminds me of the newspaper boys that used to holler trying to sell papers but instead, in Sisters they'd be shouting, "Antique quilts for sale! Get your antique quilts here!"
I swear, the pile that greeted me was even larger then in previous years! Did you notice how many people are shopping? NONE I was only alone for a few minutes before all the regulars arrived, including Bonnie, Randy and the other quilting girls from Sunriver.

This chunky applique was one of my favorites. Love the gigantic stems!!  The quilt behind it was amazing- intricate quilting.
Nothing like a good chrome yellow to wake you up in the morning!

String quilt with the tiniest of pieces. This was purchased by one of us.
Here's a lovely old quilt that was very cheap, the mice had also chewed a hole right through it. Someone in our group bought this one too.

I walked around with a lovely butter yellow grandmother's flower garden, but in the end I put it back (one in our group snapped it up in about 10 seconds!) I have been on the look out for an old GFG but I would like it with a traditional green path.  I didn't even photograph what I bought....I'm sure the suspense is killing you! lol

I have so many photos, I hope I don't bore you to tears the next few weeks.

  1. Oh my! These are wonderful and what a great tradition. I love what you shared here. I started in on what would be my favorite but I love them all! I get so stuck on the individual fabric combos and then the blocks and wondering "what was this person like?" that I drift for a long time. I'm glad I stopped drifting so I could leave a note of appreciation for sharing.

  4. You are such a tease, Lori. Well, we know what Bonnie bought and we know Randy bought a few things, but we don't know what. Now we add you to the list of "bought, but haven't shown". I personally can't wait to be bored, either. : )

  5. I'm on Sister's Quilt show Overload too. I took so many pictures it will be hard to decide which ones to Blog about tomorrow. I wish I'd seen the ANTIQUE Quilt sign. I don't know how we missed it, but we did. Guess we'll have to go back another year. Bonnie H has got me looking for old quilts at the Antique stores already and taking pictures of them there. Keep showing us what we missed. I never get tired of seeing them, I only wish we knew their story...

  16. Hey Lori,
Thanks for posting all those pix. I feel like I got a good tour of our favorite VV. Those were all great quilts you showed. Of course I especially liked the scrappy ones. Loved the snow ball/ 9 patch and the scrappy baskets with all the indigos. The blue and pink applique daisies were kinda different and sweet. Sigh. thanks again, cheers, CW

  17. You will NOT bore me with photos from Sisters -- the more, the better. This will probably be the closest I ever get to being there. I love seeing the uniqueness, simplicity, love, and wear and tear shown in all these antique quilts. Looking forward to see who bought what.
I'm sure that being at Sisters with a group of friends multiplies the enjoyment.

  23. Bore us!?! Are you kidding!?! Can't wait to see more, and what you bought! And there is something about that giant 9-patch/snowball quilt that is calling to me! Oy!

  24. I like the scrappy nine patch that looks like they are set on point with a snow ball block. Would be easy enough to make one. I love, love, love that chunky applique. We think alike there.
I had a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt top at one time that would have been the type you are looking for. I sold it quite some time ago. It needed some seam repairs but was in good shape otherwise.
I am looking forward to more pictures.

  25. Love the antique quilts you showed! I am so lucky to have inherited some from my mother in law. I really, really treasure them - especially love the signature quilts with embroidered names! My husband says we will go to the Sisters show for sure next year. The last time we went was in 2001, right before the 911 tragedy. I look back on how much the world has changed since then... Hope to meet you next year! Dixie

  32. Oh, it looks like you had so much fun. I loved seeing all of your pictures, and it is always so inspirational to see all of the work that goes into the quilts. Always makes me want to go start piecing :)

  33. What fantastic quilts!!! I love the two in the first photo. I got a 'starter pack" of pinks and blues and now can't remember how the quilt was layed out. Might just have to do something else with that fabric. My neck has been really bad and work has been busy, but you will get your birthday block I promice.
