Adventures of Sven the Nisse

Christmas "Nisse," a small Danish mythical creature that you definitely want to stay best friends with, since he is able to control your fortune. The Nisse was usually a small, old man with a white beard, dressed in a grey sweater, grey trousers, a red pixie cap, red stockings and wooden shoes.

In June we made a stop at Jamie Two-Coats Toy Shop in Shelburne, VT (and you thought they only had quilts!)  and found Sven, waiting for the holidays in the attic of this great toy store. My plan is to celebrate every month that I'm 50 and he was coming along for the ride!! We would start my June celebration.
A test run at Keepsake quilting.
He gets around, that's for sure!!

 Five states in one day!!
NYC skyline in the background! This fella knows how to party!!
My July celebration was spent with good friends at Eagle Crest. Looks like he got a start on the champagne glass on the left!
Looks like he had a little more then champagne to celebrate!! (a crazy woman from Australia was a bad influence on him!) lol
But he did help finish a quilt made for AAQI.
Sven is getting ready for his August celebration. GPS. check....
 Map...check...GPS..uncheck..can't figure it out.

50 years and 3 months and I'm still going strong!! Watch for a post next week on my Get to Goal blog to see how Sven helped me celebrate!!

PS It's been a crazy week, I hope you enjoyed my goofy post!!

PSS 600th post! Leave a comment of any kind and I'll choose a name next Monday for a giveaway.  I'm thinking maybe a little quilt from my stash.....

  2. Lori,
I always enjoy your blog, with your adventures with you Mom and your generosity with your AAIQ quilt donations. I want to do that, but right now there are too many things on my plate, but this winter I should have some.

  3. It's so nice to know that I'm not the only one who enjoyed turning 50. I celebrated like crazy that year, as well, Lori. There's something about turning 50 that is hard to explain. It needs to be experienced. LOL

Sven is definitely a party animal. LOL

Love your goofy post - had me snickering. LOL (knowing me, that shouldn't surprise you)

  7. I enjoyed the adventures with Sven. I'm hoping that I will be able to celebrate 55 with such fun. My life was on a downturn at 50 (not age related at all) but things are looking up so a celebration year is in order!

  29. congrats on #600~!!~

that Sven is quite the wild character. and yet, he helped with that cute little tumbler . . . what a guy~!
in that first shot it looks like he's been tied to the bumper . . . i hope that you're both aware that that could go very wrong~!

would Sven like to add Nevada to his/your list~??!!
there's some hard apple cider in the fridge . . . and ALWAYS quilty things to do at my house.

  32. As Sven found out, you can do five states in one day on the east coast. You've got the really big states out west. A group of us academic recruiters have a bobble head guy that comes with us on our work trips. He's been to six continents. I am wondering if you knew people with all those license tags or were strangers looking at you oddly?

  33. What a fun little guy! I love the little tumbler quilt - evidently he's got good taste too :0) 600 posts! WOW! I sure enjoy them - there's always something inspiring to find on your blog!

  40. I have one of those little Nisse also. Mine is a little rounder and hangs from a string (like he's climbing up it). So fun - it belonged to my mom. Congratulations on your 50th year - celebrating every month? Wish I'd though of that!

  41. What a fun way to celebrate your 50th. I planned to make a quilt with 50 blocks and make each block represent in some way one year. For example, sew an old Girl Scout patch to one square, sew an old pair of my eyeglasses (!) to another patch, make another block out of an old dress, etc...Great idea, right? We'll, I'm 52 now and still haven't started....Sally jspwarrenataoldotcom

  58. Lori, you're a great inspiration to me. I wish I had done at 50 what you are doing. Instead, I turned 60 this year and I'm trying to start an exercise program and diet. It's a hard thing to do, and I give you much credit. The Nike slogan..just do it...sums it all up, doesn't it. Congratulations on getting to goal. I will get there too, someday.
