"Seeing Red" Quit Show

My favorite yearly quilt show is from the Old Aurora Colony held at the historical society. The variety of quilts, old and new are lovely as is the setting and the antiques.
This year the theme was "Seeing Red". Will I ever tire of red and white quilts? Not yet! I am not showing one of my favorites, which I plan on reproducing soon! These are lovely quilts. Enjoy!!

This one cracked me up!!

This one was really striking!
Great fabric and cool quilting motifs too!!

This show is quickly becoming a tradition for hubby and I to attend. (actually I attend, he goes browsing through antique shops) Saw this cool display when we stopped for coffee on our way home. So much fun!!

    1. Gorgeous quilts.....I love that Pickle Dish and the T block quilt! And yeah, I can't get enough of red and white, either! I've just started my new leader/ender project.....a scrappy red and white tumbler quilt, like Ingrid's from Supergoof Quilts blog. Do you follow her? And wasn't Linda's show at Quilts in the Barn wonderful! Yep.....can't get enough R&W!

  6. Looks like a great setting for viewing lovely vintage quilts. It is great that you and DH go together and that there is something for each of you to appreciate.
That one quilt was pretty interesting--the one that cracks you up. Any story behind it? Like a beginner was learning the piecing method, or a non-quilter was assembling something cut out and left behind by a quilting relative?

  7. Wonderful place for a show and beautiful examples of red and white quilts, I do love the cross one.
It is fun to go for drives in the fall and see the displays at the farms and the houses.

  12. This is my favorite show of each year, too. I had a new lens on my camera, a longer one, and couldn't get far enough back to get pictures of whole quilts - next year I'll take the shorter lens again. Which of the quilts was your favorite, the one you want to reproduce?

One of the curators at the show told me that next year is their anniversary and most of the 158 quilts in their collection will be displayed. As much as I've always loved their shows, I think that will probably be my favorite.

  19. I think almost everyone likes red and white quilts. The basket quilt has a few rogue colored blocks thrown in. Wonder if the maker ran out of red fabric.

  21. Thanks so much for the Mt.Trails inspiration. I *tweaked* it a bit to makeit mine; used 11/2" strips for 6" blocks, made 80 of them and used all scraps, mostly civil war type and even the red trails were a variety of red prints. I LOVE IT!For some reason several of the 4-parches ended up *wonky* but I left them in anyway ;>). thanks again for a great idea.

  24. Funny that you posted this today as I just, this morning, finished reading the third book in a series about Emma Wagner Geisy from the Aurora colony! Jane Kirkpatrick wrote a series of historical fiction novels called the Change and Cherish series - great reading!

I would love to go out and visit the historic colony site someday. Thank you for sharing the quilts you saw on display there. Lots of fun to see the red and white combinations. Were the quilts connected to the colony or just part of a quilt show?

Thanks again - always fun to see vintage quilts!

  25. Such a lovely locale for a quilt show. That drunkard's path quilt is-- well--it's unique. Love the basket quilt. They always appeal to me, no matter the style or size or colors of the baskets. Autumn quilt shows are the best--inspiration gathered to think about during the winter months indoors.

Quilts like this keep me quilting and smiling.
    Itʻs perfect.

We attend quilt shows with the huge hope there will be at least one quilt with this kind of delirious, delicious je nais sais quoi. Unforgettable. Thanks, Lori!
