YeeHaw! Cowboys and Indians!

Karen was kind enough to send me this test applique piece.(I don't really understand the test part)  Isn't it wonderful?!  I have a hunch the back of my quilt may be mistaken for the front by the time I'm done.
I made some lovely swaps and some readers didn't want anything in return. Thank you so much Julie, Kristie, Susan, and  Mary. I should have a couple more packages on the way and that will be great!!
This rodeo clown is one of my favorite pieces!! It helped me decide what pattern to use and I kept going round in circles about it. I decided I would not be able to cut these pieces very small or I'd lose the charm of them.
Here's another piece I love and remember having in my stash. I have a bit of cowboy in my ancestry. Check out these photos:

Here's the setting I decided on- Smoky Mtn Stars from Bonnie's website.

The center of my jubilee quilt is appliqued! Now, to figure out what is next. This zig zag border is too big, so I have a plan B.  I'll use this border somewhere just not here.
Scandinavian Christmas has been neglected for awhile. The applique is done, just two more sides of cross stitch. Until I took the photo I didn't notice how horrible the little cross stitch block looks! oh my!!
Hopefully I'll be back later in the week to show you the next test border on the Jubilee quilt!!

Drunkards Path and Cowboy Fabric needed

Here's my little finished drunkards path quilt.  Each block finishes at 2" and the overall quilt size is about 18x17. Thank you Martha! I love it and learned so much doing this.

I am not looking for these ones specifically!
I have had a request to make a cowboy quilt for my nephew's adorable son who is now in a big boy bed. How can I refuse?! My problem? These two little pieces of fabric are the only cowboy fabric I have in my stash.
Does anybody have some cowboy scraps  they would like to swap? I certainly won't be able to make a whole quilt with my two pieces.  Shoot me off an email if you may be able to help me out. Let me know what you might want to fill in your stash and I'll let you know if I have it.
Thanks so much!!

My Own Infinite Variety

One year ago this month I made my first trip to New York City with my daughter to see the Infinite Variety quilt exhibit. I was thinking about that a lot today while getting caught up on my blocks.
It was an amazing trip from start to finish.

Blind Man's Fancy Finale

Ta-Da! For some reason whenever I am pulling a freshly made washed and dried quilt from the drier I always feel a bit relieved that it didn't fall apart. It isn't like I think it will, just a fleeting thought....am I the only one?

Here it is fresh from the washer and dryer. I'm thrilled to pieces!!

I started this quilt in November of 2009. My philosophy is some quilts cannot be rushed!! And why should they? I enjoyed every minute of this quilt.

This sucked.....
Especially when I only had this much left. Now that it has a different color here,  I'll be able to tell easily which end is the bottom.

My label says:

Here is the inspiration quilt.
Beth aka The Quilt Doctor posted directions for this block in 2009.  Free! it is a beauty, that's for sure!!
Thanks for following along in my progress and giving me all the encouragement.

AAQI

I not only like to make quilts to support the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, but I like to purchase them as well!!
During the auction (first 10 days of every month) I always drop by and have a look at the wonderful quilts. I'm not very good at winning them. This month I browsed all the other little quilts for sale. There are so many and at a price range everyone can afford.
One person (you!) can make a difference.

I looked for familiar names and found Nines by Nine by Dawn at Collector With a Needle blog.
And this liberated quilt by Sujata at The Root Connection blog.

My submission is still waiting for assignment. You KNOW I'll let you know when it's up for sale!!

It seems the farther my mom's disease gets, the less she likes me! I suppose one day I may be a stranger and she may be friendly to me. I'm not sure what is worse.

My Jubilee Quilt Project- Photo heavy!

Consecrate the fiftieth year and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you; Leviticus 25:10a

This is what I have so far. A few pieces are appliqued together but nothing appliqued down yet. (I will be adding the the green spikes on the bottom right cactus flower.
Here's my high tech way of making the pattern!!
For the center I used a circular block for a paper piece pattern from Electric Quilt.

Hand made paper pieced pattern.
Doing them hand marked really give it the folk art appeal, that's for sure!
Building.....

More building......

Whew! I hope I can get it all appliqued down!!

Original block at the Folk Art Museum in NYC.

Almost Finished

Remember this quilt? My Blind Man's Fancy. I got it back a couple weeks ago from
Linda, The Quilted Pineapple, who worked her magic on it. Back in July she had a special on her blog and I jumped on it. It was for an all over paisley quilt pattern. I knew this quilt was already so busy that custom quilting wouldn't be necessary.

Too bad for you I cannot take photos to show you the quilting. Now to figure out what to do for binding.

Ta-Da! Fourth border on!!
I only need to trim the top border and it will be ready for basting. This has been a wonderful applique journey thanks to Gay of Sentimental Stitches.

My dad will be 87 next week so am taking a quick weekend trip to Washington (starting Friday) to visit him, bake him a cake and take him out to dinner. Probably won't post until next week!

I finished the 4th and final border of the Beyond the Cherry Tree quilt!! Woo-Hoo!! I got my batting and extra wide backing this past week and lined up someone to machine baste it for me. It is going to be about 100" square and I wasn't thrilled with the idea of hand basting. Heck, I don't even have a place to lay it out to take a photo, much less baste it.
On Friday I picked up my daughter in Portland wand we went to visit my SIL and niece. All four of us went to the Puyallup Sewing and Stitchery Expo. Here is Bird Brain Designs booth- Love them and their adorable designs.
You wouldn't know it by looking here that the economy is still flat in the Pacific Northwest.  It was busy and crowded!!

Some time has passed since I received these lovely gifts in the mail. The "wipers" are from
Messy Karen- hand made!! At a Christmas bazaar I just bought a crocheted (or knitted, I can't tell!) wash cloth and then I won these. I use them all the time. Thanks Karen!!
The lovely red fabric is from Christine. It's going to be perfect for my Just Takes 2 quilt. I have to say I am so disappointed in the directions, but will keep moving forward with it.

That's it for this Monday. I still hope to show you details of my Jubilee quilt this week!!
