Help Me Find the "Perfect" Pattern

Of course, we all know that the "perfect" pattern doesn't exist, and what may be perfect for one person won't be perfect for another. But I would like your help.
Here's a few goods from quilt market.
A beautiful Moda bundle called Crossroads by Jan Patek.
This is one of my favorite quilts that I use on the couch. I'd love to make another sampler with various motifs in easy to applique big pieces! (a bit of piecing is great to!) I've seen a few newer prim patterns and as far as I'm concerned there is too much background space (meant to sell more fabric I think)
If you come across something I may like please let me know. The Porch quilt would be perfect, but I don't plan on making that one again!!

Thank you for reading my blog and all your wonderful comments, support and encouragement. Monday I'll have a giveaway ready!!

  3. Lori, what wonderful fabric! Karen at "Log Cabin Quilter" always has such wonderful applique projects and she does a bit of piecing, too! I love her things as well as yours, seems to me you might find some ideas there. Also Cheryl Wall in her book "At Home with Country Quilts" has some really neat applique/pieced projects. I don't buy books often, but I'm glad I bought this one. What ever you choose, it will be beautiful and so you!

  4. Love your market finds - makes me want to go shopping! Have you ever made any of Kim Diehl's patterns? I like to browse through her books for inspiration. Or...the Crow Girls! Love their stuff - do you have their book? So many choices!

  5. Glad you fought that huge crowd for the Moda stack. I settled for my tiny square bundle that Jan gave out.

What about: Primitive Gatherings Quilt in the book: "Primitive Gatherings" by Terry Burkhart & Rozan Meacham. Cathy gave me the book for my birthday and let me tell you....lots of fun items in there.

  10. How about The Spirit of Sacagawea... 12 blocks, 6 pieced and 6 applique. Not a new pattern, from The Kansas City Star's 2011 Block of the Month and available as a book... The Spirit of Sacagawea: A Textile Tribute to an American Heroine by Laurie Simpson, Polly Minick. It's on my bucket list :0)

  14. I'm seeing something Blackbird Designs-ish. A little fussier applique', but really pretty quilts. I have a bundle of Blessings, and the colors are similar, so I'll be interested in what you settle on.

  16. Hospitality Sweets is a great prim quilt, an older pattern from Jan Patek and Sue Spargo, large applique with a larged pieced border. I finished it several months ago and is one of my favorites.

  20. You want us to help you shop for a pattern??? What fun! Here are a few links to check out - the quilts each have their own feel, and it was a lot of fun to help you look! You have some beautiful fabric. :-)

http://www.needllove.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=Q24 (thought the striped quilt was kind of neat)

http://www.blackberryprimitives.com/kits.html (they have some neat ones, but the Country Memories stole my heart - it just needs some piecing to break up the blocks!)

  23. I love your Millenium Garden Quilt! It's always been a favorite of mine and I finally made it a few years ago. My problem is deciding on the quilting of it. How did you quilt yours?

I'm with Kim Brackett on this. I love Blackbird Designs patterns too. Of course, I've got lots of their books and lots of Jan Patek's books too. I've been wanting to jump into another applique quilt and do some hand work. Think I'll go get my books out and ponder. Love your Market spree goodies!

  24. That's beautiful fabric, Lori. Have you considered doing a scrappy Farmer's Wive quilt? Large applique blocks would be wonderful, as well. Find several patterns and make a quilt that's all yours.

Wish I had more ideas and thoughts. I'll be waiting to see what you do.

  25. I LOVE Millennium Garden - I gave mine away and while I don't regret it as I know it is in a loving home, I think I may just have to make another *s*

  34. Oh boy! The perfect pattern, now that is a big ask LOL!!!! I think we are all looking for that, like the pot at the end of the rainbow!!!! It is going to be different for everyone, I think it's the one that makes your heart skip a beat, the one the you can't stop thinking about when you discover it, the one you've always wanted to make - but didn't know it until you saw it....... you see where I'm going here LOL!!! (a bit like trying to find the perfect man LOL!!!, now you know that is almost impossible.......LOL).
I love your new fabrics, just love what I can see of 'Crossroads', just gorgeous, very feminine, I'll be looking out for that soon!!!
Lori, I hope you find your perfect pattern, I think the perfect pattern suits the fabric you have fallen in love with, the pattern that allows the fabric to sing.....I have fabric like that, yet to find the pattern to allow it to sing......

  36. Hi!
Have you looked at the Primative Quilts magazine?
They have a 4 part quilt in their issues, started with the issue came out in Jan. I has a big house and trees centrre block, then piecing in rows. They are up to issue 3 I think. I agree, anything Blackbird designs, Kim Diehl, a newer Jan Patek. Also Primitive Gatherings have lots of wool appliqué patterns, but I think you could just use cotton instead. Their Evelyn's Garden quilt, which was their summer block of the week might be perfect. primitivegatherings.us.
Half the fun is the pattern browsing and selection.
Thanks for the giveaway and take care, Leslie

  37. Hi Lori,
I wish I could help but I don't do applique yet. (I will one day cuz I find those kind of quilts so charming!). I do follow another blogger who makes wonderful applique quilts. Her blog is Dorothy's threads of life. She is from Australia so she probably have different patterns then the one in the USA. I'm just saying.
May you find what you are looking for soon because I want to see the end result. Always love your work. Beside, there is so much out there, there is bound to be something for everyone.
    Take care.

  38. I think the perfect pattern doesn't exist because there are so many beautiful patterns :-)
One of my favorites is a freebie. I have downloaded all the patterns and hope to start this one real soon. Its from sentimentalstitches and all the patterns you can still download:

    http://sentimentalstitches.net/free-stuff/block-of-the-month-quilt-designs/sally-rides-civil-war-sampler/

Another one I realy, realy like is the Irish Circles from karen Cunningham, I have the pattern bought last year but this one I also have to start, just as The Amish Circle quilt from Rosemary Youngs ... oh boy ... I do wish we had more time in a day :-)

  39. I see you are a lot like me, as I also buy the fabric I LoVe and then I wonder what will be the perFect pattern to make it up in. And then because it is so lovely and prim I hate to use it all, I don 't want to cut into it. I 'd like to know a stunning way to showcase the fabric stash so I could see it and enjoy it; you know; instead of storing it in a container till something comes along. You all know our motto.... You can NEVER have too much fabric lol!Good luck with your project....Marg

  41. Boy, I couldn't really help you. I like Jan Patek patterns, but have never done one and you have. I have started Oak Leaves and Turkey Feathers in the Country Paths book and there are other patterns in that book, but it's at home and I don't really remember what they are. In fact, I usually get ideas from you.
