The Stitchin' Post

While I'm on the subject of modern quilting this is what greeted me at the Stitchin' Post when I arrived on Tuesday.
They put a lot of work into getting the store ready for the quilt show, but what I noticed was all the modern quilts hanging!!

I thought this skirt was a little out of place.
The employees challenge on the Stichin' Post wall quilt show day. It is always fun to see. It's very modern this year.
I met Pam from Library Gal Quilts for a brief visit. This is our third year of seeing each other during quilt show week.
Ruth from Country Log Cabin and I have had lunch together a few years ago and I was thrilled to be able to drop by and see her as well.
And to end this post with a bit of traditional quilting, here is Gone to Texas in Ruth's 5th wheel! Way to bring your quilting camping!!!

I enjoy seeing the other quilts am a bit surprised it was all modern quilts in the shop though there must be some prim or traditional quilters there!

  2. Hmmmm. Interesting that Sister's has gone so modern. I'm afraid I may have been a wee bit disappointed if I'd traveled so far and not seen a few more traditional or traditional with a modern twist quilts. Thanks for sharing all your pictures!

I like modern, but I fear for the traditional quilt future.

  4. thanks for sharing. I had planned to drive the 1300 miles to Oregon for the show, but our vacation plans changed at the last minute, so I'm happy to see your pictures. Maybe I'll meet you next year!

  5. All the contemporary quilts leave me cold and I don't enjoy the Stitchin' Post so much anymore. But your friend Ruth's "Gone to Texas" is wonderful and exciting!! So glad you shared it.

  6. Ruth's quilt is my favourite. I'm guessing maybe a 5th wheel is some kind of motorhome or caravan? I recognise the little cupboards either side of the bed!

  7. I guess we traditional quilters just have to learn to love modern quilts, surprised to see so many at the Stitching Post.

  10. Whoa, were you disoriented when you saw all the modern quilts? "Am I in the right place?" : )
There is a little shop a couple of hours from my home that I rarely get to--once every year or two (It just isn't on the way to anywhere else I go). It used to have a nice blend of traditional and modern, with a very cozy atmosphere. The last time I crossed the threshold I had a "where am I?" moment. It was totally modern inside. Not a scrap of traditional fabric or quilting. I can appreciate that there are different styles and tastes in the quilting world, and there are modern quilts that are very striking and pleasing to me. But it is not what I make and I wished I'd had some warning that this shop had lost its balance. Would have saved myself the trip.
Were there traditional quilts anywhere in the show, other than the antique quilts vendor?

  13. I'm a die hard Traditional quilter. I am glad I have 3 places to buy fabrics in my town. This post goes right along with Bonnie's guest post yesterday about "Mondern". Thanks for sharing, since I didn't get to go this year.

  15. Wow, I love Ruth's scrappy quilt best! Not much for the modern quilts myself, but to each her own. What I'm finding troubling is that so many of the quilt shops are switching their merchandise to only carry the modern prints. Maybe a good thing I'm a yard and estate sale junkie!

  16. I sure noticed the same thing and when I went into the Stitchin Post I didn't see any reproduction fabric at all, whereas, a couple years ago, they did have some. I was able to buy some FQs at their sale at the high school, however. I guess they were getting rid of it as it was reduced. Thanks for putting my quilt on your blog! Today I found a bunch of reproduction FQs at a garage sale for $.50! We die-hard traditionalists will get our fabric one way or another!

  17. I like the way the quilts are displayed on the end of the building. Not my taste but I can still appreciate them.

Must be a lot of people you know coming to the Sister's Show. What a wonderful treat to get together with some of them. Ruth comes to Florida but I think it is on the other side of the state that she visits family.

  21. i think that i would have been a little surprised too . . . and although i'm interested in looking at just about any quilt i think i would have been disappointed to see such an overwhelming number of any one quilt style . . . part of the fun of a show is to see a variety of styles and techniques.
love Ruth's quilt; there are some really great fabrics within it~!

  22. Thanks for showing us more quilts. I love them all. Different styles speak to me in different ways. Hmmm maybe that is why I have so many UFOs. LOL
Isn't Ruth's quilt beautiful? They always are.

  23. As most of you, my first love is 19th century repros/traditional. As a longarm quilter, I do appreciate modern as most are the perfect canvas for some wonderful stitching designs. The evolution of quilting in our lifetime has been amazing! It is sad so many shops are going to modern and fewer shops have repros, especially here in California. Thank goodness we have the internet! Glad you ended the post with Ruth's quilt :0)
Thank you Lori for sharing so much of Sisters! I almost feel like I was there... Hi Pam, thank you for the post card from Sisters! I ran into Carmen at Honey Run yesterday and we both said we were sorry we didn't go and vowed to go next year. It would have been nice to meet Ruth, your Gone to Texas quilt is beautiful!
