Benjamin Biggs Quilt

Apple Pie Ridge Star block
And the fun starts with this historic quilt from the Just Takes 2 ladies, Brenda and Gay. The first block in the antique is red and green, but I'm going my own way with this quilt.

Find the pattern here.

And if you want some fun and encouragement along the way, Sharon has started a blog! You can find it HERE..

  1. Very good fabric choices. I have had both in my stash but now I don't know. Probably not the blue.

  9. Wow! I can't believe you got your first block done already!! It looks great and I love your fabric. I've been doing applique for years but I am going to try my hand at needleturn for this quilt. I'm working on a practice piece using Karen's Quilts tutorial (which is excellent) A little more practice and I think I'll be ready to start!!

  15. I don't usually do hand applique but this is gorgeous and makes me want to try my hand with it again! I'm thinking I will do it in different colors also! What do you use for background? I'm thinking muslin, but I may be tempted to go with something else.

  16. Happy New Year.Your block is gorgeous. I have been deciding between red and blue or red and taupe. So, it was great to see you making it in red and blue. I am trying to get into the blog as a contributor. I hope I can get in. Thanks for sharing your work.

  20. Ohhhh, love your color selections. I am REALLY-SERIOUSLY considering doing this one. But since I have surpassed my 3 yr mark with no fabric buying I am out of yardage that I would need to do this one…..soooo, I need to order some. I was wondering what/who's white/off white
background fabric you use. I have a yard of Kona white I dug out last night and looked at it, not
sure if it is too heavy. I also have a bolt of white muslin, it may be too thin! Decision Decisions!
Just wondering, since you have done more appliqué than me, what you might prefer.

  21. Oh yes, love your fabric selections! I was wanting to ask you (since you have done TONS more appliqué than me) what/who's background fabric do you prefer. Since I have surpassed my 3 yr. mark for no fabric buying I may have to FINALLY make a purchase on some yardage so I can also participate in doing this Benjamin Biggs. I had a yard of Kona white I dug out last night and couldn't decide if it was too heavy. I do have a 'bolt' of white muslin and couldn't decide if it was too thin! Decisions Decisions! I know some like Bella solids but I don't think I have any of that in my stash to compare! Hope you can help me in my quandary!!!
