Friday Fun and A Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed!

When I was in North Carolina late January I was contacted by Pam about doing a review and giveaway on her lovely labels. She has been very patient with me.
This week I got several small quilts bound and I added the label while I was putting on the binding. I will add the date with a permanent pen.  But aren't these so cute?! Pam has many designs to choose from and has generously offered one lucky reader a set of 15 personalized labels! You can see them at Mountain Street Arts HERE and HERE.

To be entered leave me a comment and tell me if you label your quilts. I will probably only use these on my little quilts as I do put more information on my larger quilts. They are machine washable too! Thanks again Pam!

I was told to do what pleases me on the woodsy border. I'm hoping to show you the completed quilt on Monday and give you info on ordering the pattern for those who have asked.  (trying to get it in the mail today!)
A few of you want to sew along with our Ohio blocks which would be fun! As far as I know the book is only available on Anita's website. You can find it HERE.

For those of you who have generously donated to my shoe shine boy family, you will be happy to know that all the kids have new shoes! This is the old photo. My angel Francisco went shopping with the dad and with the extra funds were able to purchase some school supplies. Thank you again!

This is what went on at Instagram this week.

Have a fantastic weekend!!

  1. I'm loving your woodland quilt! I can't wait to see it all finished!

I label the "important" quilts, but not all of them. Labels like these would be really nice for the quilts that I donate to charity!

  2. Hi Lori,
Happy Friday the 13 th! I just realized what day it is.
Yes, I always label my quilts. Thanks for a chance to win some of these great labels.

  3. The labels are adorable! I agree about using them on smaller quilts as I do like to add more info. Maybe she will make larger ones in the future. Good luck to her in this business venture. Love the woodsy border. And glad to hear about your little shoeshine boy. So adorable!

  4. I put labels on every quilt, using Printed Treasures treated fabric and run it through my printer. I keep a list of quilts that need labels and when I have enough to fill a sheet, I print them. As soon as a quilt is done I sign my name and date on the back with a Sharpie. The label is seen over that when made. Tempted by Ohio but have to finish several other quilts before I start something new!

  5. The labels are really nice! I eventually get mine labeled. "-} There are several that need labels now and I've been thinking about it. Is that lame?

  6. I usually just write on the back with a permanent pen, but if I had those cute labels, I surely would use them!

  7. I am terrible about labeling quilts! Maybe if I had some like this, I would put them in the binding like you are doing!

    Love your woodsy quilt.

  8. Lori, I do label my quilts. I'm so glad I do because quilting years go so fast! I don't label the little things like table toppers. Should I ? Do you?

  9. I've quilted for 30 years and the quilt I'm binding now will be the first one I've ever labeled. I know ... I know. :-( I love those little labels and would love to win some.

  10. I do label my quilts. I have even made my own by printing them but it is such a hassle. I'd love to win these. Thanks!

  11. I label "most" of my quilts with scrapes and writing with the embroider feature on my sewing machine. These labels are super cute...!!

  12. Lovely labels! I label the quilts I gift and try to label the quilts I keep.

  13. I love your border, excellent! Congratulations on all the kids having new shoes and school supplies!

  14. I do not label all of my quilts. Just plain lazy on my part, but I am trying to do better.

  15. I love those labels too. I try to label the quilts I give away as gifts, and we always label our charity quilts. I journal all my quilts with photos but I'm trying to get into the habit of just labeling EVERYTHING. Sometimes by the time I get the label on I've forgotten what the finish date was!

  16. I've labeled a few quilts, but not nearly enough to say that I am reliable about it. Interestingly, just about a week and a half ago I did a blog post on a new method of labeling that I've used, and like, and I actually do think that I will use it faithfully on future quilts - unless, of course, I win some from Mountain Street Arts!! :)

  17. I do label all of my quilts. I wish that my labels looked better, I hate my hand writing. I love your labels they're so professional and neat "love" the quilt block. I would be thrilled to win, my quilted gifts would look fantastic. Thanks to both of you for such a great giveaway. ;-> Toni Anne
P.S. I miss your blogging about Pelly, I'm so glad for the happy ending.

  19. When I first started quilting I labeled my quilts but now not so much. I still think it is a good idea.
I have Anita’s book and think I will sew along with you and Karen but not on any schedule.

  22. Yes, I label all my quilts, but it's a challenge to find the best way to do it. sometimes I fmq the details right onto the quilt, other times I use a pen and sew on a label.

  23. These labels would be perfect for little quilts especially with a date added. I do label my quilts altho I have to admit it becomes the stopping point to finishing UFOs. Always looking for better ways to make them! Love your Friday Fun post, enjoy your weekend!

  24. Yes, I label my quilts. I enjoy looking for suitable fabric that I can write on.

  25. Cute labels. I label everything with the folded square sewn into the corner.
Thanks for the update on the family you are helping. What a blessing you have been to them (and they to you, I'm sure).

  26. I love your border! What darling shapes. Can't wait to see the finished quilt! Your labels are beautiful. I have labelled some quilts. I want to label more. I have to label my Project Linus quilts and always say, it would be nice to have my own ready made labels. Now I see yours and it makes me want them even more! Thanks for sharing. I have started on my first large hand quilted quilt. I think I will need encouragement along the way. It seems so large! It is 41 x 61. Just need to do it a bit at a time. Thanks for the inspiration to do it by hand. K-

  27. I finely started labeling my quilts about 3 years ago... Sometimes with more information then others but always with the month and year.

  28. Premade labels - all I have to do is stitch it on - what a fantastic idea! I rarely label quilts but when I hand quilting I always quilt my initials and the date into the quilt somewhere. I think the border you are working on there is going to look wonderful!

  29. I try to label all my quilts, but honestly, it rarely gets done until I want to hang them in the annual quilt show or when I give them away.:) Those are very cute and efficient looking! Looks like you're on a roll with the applique work!

  33. I'm rarely label, but these preprinted cute ones are a great idea to at least have something on there! Really tempting to sew along on the sampler, but better not start something new. Yay for shoes! Such a blessing!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I always label my quilts when they're given as gifts, but I'm not so good at doing my own - sigh! These look like a good and easy solution!

  35. Lovely labels! Yes, I always label, even if it's just added as an afterthought with a permanent market. Thanks for the chance.
Also, I'd love to sew along with you and Karen in the Ohio Collection, but, but, but. :) I should finish a couple of other ongoing UFQ's first. I may jump in later, though. Thanks!

  36. i certainly do label my quilts....sometimes just name and city but more detailed for special gift quilts....

  37. Love your woodland quilt!

I "try" to label all my quilts, but I'm pretty terrible about following through. I label the ones I give away, but most of the ones I keep are unlabeled, and will be labeled "someday". Maybe some preprinted labels would help? It's really not that hard to make a label, but it doesn't always seem to happen. Thanks for the giveaway chance.

  38. I always label my big quilts so I can record my name, the finish date and the type of batting used along with care instructions. But I often dont label table runners or small wall hangings that I keep for myself....silly not sure why! These little labels are ideal and a great gift idea as well for fellow quilters, thanks for the link.

  39. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at labeling my quilts. Probably because I'm not very good at getting them finished. Perhaps if I had some of those lovely labels, I might be highly inspired to finish something.

  40. I will admit that I label quilts that are given as gifts but I am not as good at labeling quilts I make for me. I love those labels and was just thinking the other day about ordering some labels.
The Ohio quilt is so inspiring.

  45. I've only labeled 2 of my quilts - very time consuming. And when I washed the quilts before giving them away, the labels already were fading. I used special fabric sheets I fed through the printer & soaked in special liquid & rinsed & dried & ironed & they still started fading. Thanks.

  55. Cute labels, perfect for little quilts! I've ordered the book and I'm not so patiently waiting for it. :)

  56. Those labels are lovely Lori. I always label my quilts especially with the year, and I am constantly surprised when I check a label on one of my quilts as to the year I made it. It seems in most cases so long ago, and I would never remember. I went to order the book, but there was a notice saying International postage costs very high. I might have to see if my Guild has the book. :-)
Thank you for the chance to be in the draw!

  67. I do label my quilts and I used to make the labels as soon as I finished the quilt but lately I've put off making the labels until my Guild has a quilt show. Then there is a mad rush to make them and stitch them to the quilt! Thank you for the opportunity to win!

  68. Lori, those labels are adorable for the small quilts. I put much more information on the labels on my larger quilts too. It is very important that our future generations know exactly where and how these quilts came about.

  74. I'm a big believer in labeling quilts! My aunt made absolutely gorgeous quilts that were all done by hand. Cutting fabric by hand, sewing blocks together and quilting by hand. The sad part is that I have no idea when she made her quilts or any information on them. I so wish that she had labeled them. It taught me a valuable lesson to label all my quilts. I even keep a written provenance on all of my quilts telling the "history" of each one.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I usually label the larger quilts and most of the small ones but I still have some that need labels. The printed labels might just be the answer for my small quilts.

  81. Everything gets a label or permanent pen info inked on front or back....historical correctness? I want to "talk" to future ow wires of my quilts. They will know at least the basics, date completed, who and where and if space name of quilt.

If you put the label sideways on the upper left or right side of quilt and perhaps another piece of tape on the other side with year completed you could easily put a small wood rod or flat bar in and have a quilt hanger.....jus' sayin, And I would love some if these spiff labels.....the more you dig into web site the more designs..... Ooooooo I am smitten
