House Party

I know the setting I'd like these to be, but I do not have a pattern. I sashed them first with 1 1/2" strips. Then I needed to add the tan to the top of some blocks in a row to make them even with the taller blocks. (each row is not the same height, though)

Then I needed to add to the sides to make them the same length, then I added borders to the top, bottom and sides.
I just noticed that this black strip is supposed to go all the way across the top.
Here's the model I am using. i had a blast taking a class from Tonye and making the houses, but she only had a photo, no directions, so I'm winging it.
Here's my top roof part. It almost seems easier to applique this block down.
A few weeks ago you saw a pile of fabrics I was choosing from for the fall quiltalong. Well, this is what I chose. Very amoeba-ish. I love it! It is more of a golden cheddar than true cheddar. Will you be ready to start in 2 weeks?

Instagram feed for the week. The photo of my mom and her friend at the Luau party was text to me from the workers while I was on my way to go camping. She was having fun.

Have an excellent weekend.

  1. I'm sure you can "wing" it just fine! Looks so bright and cheery. And, yes, I think I will be ready in a couple weeks!

  5. Lori, I think your black strip is correct, take a second look, it is the top of the house before the triangle for the roof!

I love that pattern, can you buy it separately or is it just thru the class? I love Tonye's houses!

    Looking good Lori.

Hmm, I must have missed the post about fabrics for the next SAL. Maybe while I was on the road. I need to go back in your archives and see what is coming up.
Finished two dresses yesterday--will get them in the mail right away.
Enjoy your time with Randy today. You deserve a break.

  12. I am really looking forward to a quiltalong. I have been so involved in "life" that I haven't had a chance to participate for a long time. This will be fun. I have a lot of cheddar fabric including the one you have picked out.

  20. Funny blocks for a funny quilt !!

  21. You figured out a setting solution for the blocks. Blocks of different sizes can be a challenge to fit them into a pleasing setting in a quilt and you have done well.

  22. I am loving your house quilt! Such fun and quirky houses! Great job getting the setting figured out. No pattern available? Do you think she is going to publish a pattern? I hope to join in the sew along. Do we need a cheddar fabric?
