Delectable Mountains

Most of you will probably recognize this quilt. This is the quilt top I made from Fat Quarter shop vintage and classic block series.  I got it back from the quilter this week. It was my first time sending out to Sharon, Grass Roots Quilt Studio, but I had seen her work and knew we would be on the same page.
We had a facetime conversation and it worked out great as she was able to show me a few different classic options of quilting.  I wanted to keep this one very traditional.
We also have had masses of rain so there was no hanging this one outside for photos.
 Isn't it lovely?
This photo was my inspiration. I get to see these mountains on a regular basis.
I also decided to try and sell this quilt at the Sisters show this summer to raise funds for my trip to Peru. I thought it would be a bit nicer to have a more formal label. (I'd also be interested in selling it right now! )
So, I printed what I wanted on paper.
Taped fabric over the top of it, held my breath, then printed on my fabric. (darn smudge!)
A sprayed lightly with a clear coat, then washed it to check the stability.
I will attach my binding, then applique the other two sides of this label. I'm actually pretty thrilled with how it turned out. Thanks Lizzy- Gone to the Beach blog.

Happy Wednesday!!

  5. Yay! It worked! Your label looks great and your classec Delectable Moutains is so beautiful.

btw I usually bind and wash my quilts before adding the label, "just in case". I just baste the binding area where I ll be tucking in the label. Mostly that s because the new quilt may shrink, and the label will be able to lie smoothly. Either step is fine tho.

  6. Try ironing your fabric onto a piece of 8 1/2 X 11 freezer paper then sending it through the printer. I make wonderful labels this way!

  17. Your quilt and the quilting look wonderful Lori, but you lost me regarding the label. Tried looking on the other blog but no luck.

Can you explain the steps please? Thanks.

    1. I put the steps info on Lori's facebook page, I think January 6th. Scroll thru the comments, my name on FB is Sunny Dillingham.
The reason to tape the small square of fabric instead of ironing an entire 8 x 11 piece of fabric to a sheet of freezer paper is 1-easier, no exact cutting, 2-saves fabric, 3-eliminates the evil result of the fabric and paper jamming and wadding up in your printer, if you have a crummy printer like I do.
