BowTie Quilt

In 2011 we saw this great bow tie quilt in Sisters for sale at the antique quilt booth.

I found out later Liesel from Sydney bought it.

That same day Bonnie threw out a leader ender challenge to make a bow tie quilt.
I wasn't loving mine as much as the antique so it took me awhile to get my little one together.

Here's the back so you can see how I quilted it.

I had great plans to get a lot of machine quilting accomplished. The dreaded flu hit and I haven't had much energy for anything!!

  5. The cheddar background for the bow ties is what I like about the little quilt. What is it about cheddar and old quilts that so draws us to them.
Are you sick now or on the mend?

I recall when you saw this quilt at Sisters, and Bonnie's subsequent challenge.
Don't know what you weren't loving about your version. Looks really good to me. How large did you make the bowties?

  17. Take the time to recoup fully, this is a nasty cold/flu season that keeps lingering. I love your bowtie and I'm glad to hear it was Liesel that took home the vintage piece. It's in good hands. It's a back making day for me.

  23. The flu is going strong around here too, so far not at my house thankfully. I keep hearing how Tamiflu really helps--the pharmacies keep selling out of it. I love your cheddar bow ties too! I might have to start a mini today, well tomorrow since I'm working today.

  25. Hello! I hope you feel better real soon. Chia tea is good for nausea in my experience..... also lemon green tea. I did the same leader/ender challenge. My background is a cheddar repro print, so it looks almost identical to yours. It's really cute. I must get another leader/ender project started. Sometimes I use the triangle tip pair cut off when adding a triangle to a corner, but have used those up.

  26. I've made two small bow tie quilts similarly piece to the antique one you shared. One has 6" blocks and the other 3" ones. I was at a retreat and got scraps from everyone's quilt leavings to make the 3" blocks and used my own background fabrics when I hand pieced them. Need to dig them out and share some pictures.

    Love your version.
