Fabulous Friday!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments about adopting Elsa. It's been a busy week, but every day gets a little better and easier. I made it to my sewing room for a short while!

The stripe on the sides make this look very wonky, but it isn't. This is the start of a little quilt for our upcoming doll quilt swap.
Three more blocks on the 1857 sampler. I adore the carpenter tools, but really don't know what the pieces are around the hearts. A square, an iron,  and a feather? I still need to sew these down with my machine.
I got the binding attached to another little quilt. Yay!

If you missed my Instagram this week. Lots of Elsa and sunny days!

Have a fantastic weekend!

  1. Your block is so tempting! I like those carpenter tools too. Maybe the others one deal with writing, like an ink well, a quill and a right angle ruler?

  2. Wow you are done with your 1857 blocks already! I was trying to figure out what they were too. I thought that maybe the thing you called a feather was a trowel.

  6. Love that block! I love it when stripes make things look wonky when they are not! I think the tools around the heart are masonry tools. Trowels and a level. The quilt has other masonic symbols, so I am just guessing. Love your blocks! Glad to hear Elsa is settling in.

  8. You "do" the vintage look so well, Lori. That stripe makes the doll quilt look like something made by someone who could not afford the luxury of tossing aside a scrap to find something that was exactly straight. In other words, it looks perfect!
Don't think I have ever seen carpenter tools in applique before. : )
Love the sunrise/sunset shots in your feed. Who is that cute baby?

  14. like the new blocks...I think I agree that one tool may be a trowel, another an angle and perhaps a level?

  23. How interesting. I am certain the one which looks like an iron is an old fashioned block plane, seen sidways on, my Dad had several. The handle may be stylized a little for ease of sewing the shape. The square is for finding right angles as you have guessed and the one which looks like a trowel, might be a coping saw https://www.etsy.com/listing/95563289/vintage-coping-saws-3-vintage-hand-saws?ref=market. I would love to know!

  24. You have to look closely at the picture, far right of the Masonic symbols:
Right angle, and cement trowel [the feather shaped thing]. The third image looks like a grout trowel or simplified wood plane.
