Basket Sampler

Here's the basket quilt I wanted to get done before leaving for Houston. The blocks are 7", which made for some strategic cutting!!

 In progress.
Most of the fabric was from Diamond Textiles.  This photo isn't very good, but this one reminded me of a lovely linen.
Fabric close ups.

The woman may add a border, but she will make up her mind about that when she receives the quilt. I think a border with some applique would be nice.

Have a great week!

Friday will be a linky party to add your Quilters Madder.  If you don't have a blog please send me a photo and I'll try and add it- be patient, I'll be in Houston until Sunday the 6th.

Aurora Quilt Show Part 2- New Quilts

Here's a few of my favorite new quilts at Aurora.

This one was really well done and what's not to love about these great colors? That pattern is stunning!
I thought this was a vintage quilt. Nope! Blue and brown are so soft and lovely together. It instantly ages a quilt.

I'm taking a class in Houston on embroidery! I was impressed with this fantastic patriotic quilt. (notice the quilting)
http://www.sewterific.com/patrioticredwork2.htm

The embroidery steals the show all the way on this one.
This is so delicate and beautiful.

I think these were 4" blocks. It was a lot of work.

Isn't this the block that Barb (Fun With Barb) just swapped? What a happy quilt!

This entire quilt was done with reverse applique.
It was very well done.
Here's a fun little herb garden in the courtyard.
It has been quite a week! Elsa made it through her necessary girl surgery and it back on normal activity. Our son got his car stolen in Portland in broad daylight at a busy store. It was full of mostly everything he and his girlfriend own. (they have been backpacking, so they don't own a lot, but cameras, computers, backpacks- all important stuff)
I'm off to Houston on Sunday. I'll be posting a few things next week, but will be harder to respond to questions. I'm volunteering to work at the International Quilt Festival- does that make sense? (volunteering to work?) I'll get an opportunity to see another side of the show. How does all that get done, anyway? I'll know more on the flip side! If you see me, say hi. I probably won't be able to chat, but would love to give you a hug and put a face with a name.

Ya'll have a wonderful weekend!

Aurora Colony Quilt Show

Cory and I made a quick trip this weekend to the Aurora Quilt show at the Old Aurora Colony Museum. It's always such a great setting! They rotate the museum's antique quilts, so I do see many of the same ones every few years. Why is it I don't get tired of seeing them?

First up today is the antique quilts I love so much. Not all of these belong to the museum.

I've seen this one before, but this year it really caught my eye.
It had this great butterscotch border with that brown print! And look at that star print!!
I feel a very green quilt creeping up in the near future....

Great colors.
Lovely quilting.

Hope you enjoyed the show!

Porch Quilt Part 6

My quilt section went together pretty well! Surprise!

I opted for my initials on the one floral block between stars. I do wish the stars were a bit larger.
I had to add a strip under my basket to bring it up to the correct size. I knew when I made it, that I was an inch or so short.
I can't remember what happened to my basket. I had to add a strip there as well.
I think it is pretty darn cute!
Here is Cathy S blocks. I love the little door on the bird house. I think I may need to use that idea. Great quilt Cathy!

Next month we are doing the bicycle! I'm going to be gone for 2 weeks in November, so I'll let you know when we will be sharing the next part. I am thinking the end of November.
I'd love to shoot for getting the body complete before the end of the year! But, one month at a time for now.

Lets get the center section together too.

Send me your photos or link up!

Quilters Madder Finale

Using the pieces with the same background assemble your block like the photo. This traditional block is called Old Maids Puzzle.
Obviously I wasn't too worried about sharp points! LOL I love this madder fabric!
And this fabric! Make 6 of these blocks.

I laid my blocks out on my design wall and still messed them up! The bottom right 1/2 block got mixed up with the block above it. My pinks are closer together than I would like as well, but it's too late now!
Because mine is quilted and DONE!
I hope you are happy with your Humble Quilts mystery! It is a little bigger than the others I've done, but it just worked and I wasn't up to making up weird sizes.

Here is the inspiration for "Quilters Madder"

Thanks for sewing along! I'll add a linky in about a week or so, so we can see them all!
You can quilt yours any way you'd like. I machine quilted horizontal and vertical in the ditch on each row.
I hand quilted an X in the 3 1/2" squares, handquilted in the ditch next to the large madder triangle and stitched a line diagonally through the 2" patches.

McCall, Idaho Quilting

The mountain town I went to with my sister had 2 quilt shops! On the off season the population is quite small, so I was surprised.

Huckleberry patches was a woolly wonder! Who doesn't recognize this Sue Spargo pattern? It was obvious they were fans!

Look at that BOM using French General fabric! Wow! I thought it was a cheater panel- it isn't!
This quilty looking iron grate surrounded the trees downtown. Any quilter would be able to spot that pattern! (my sister didn't)

I was hoping to have some more quilty pleasures at Grannys Attic.
But apparently they are doing well enough to close up shop! Maybe next time.

Here's my instagram feed for the week!

Happy Monday!
