Color Wheel Conundrum

I'm preparing for my class with Maria Shell. We are supposed to bring twelve to twenty-four or more FQs or similarly sized pcs representing the color wheel.
Because she works with solids I thought I'd start there first. Unfortunately I do not have one blue solid!
So, I started digging around my sewing room and found these little swatches by Clothworks "American Made Brand" (here you go if you are looking for truly American made goods!)
This seemed like a pretty good representation of swatches for the color wheel.

So, I dug a little more and used the swatches to gather a few fabs. I'm still missing blue, but will have to go to my blue drawer to try and fill in. The class is, "Color; its Relative"
Color is one of the most important components to quiltmaking. This short and intense workshop is based on a series of mini-lectures and exercises designed to take your color usage to the next level.

What are your thoughts about what I have so far?  This is harder than I thought it would be!

  1. it is challenging! you definitely need blue. I worry about contrast more than color myself. Color gets all the credit though.

  3. I am flabbergasted that you have NO blue Lori.......of course it is my favorite color so I have half a quilt store in blues...if only you were not on the other side of the country you could stop by and help yourself. Color is so much fun to work with, it makes or breaks a quilt....
    enjoy your workshop :0)

  4. This looks so interesting! I'm surprised you don't have blue? What about that fab cobalt from your cheddar and blue Railroad Crossings quilt? The group of small swatches is inspired, it definitely sets a standard of color wheel assortment. [looks like you need blue-violet as well as blue in your prints]. Your quilts are always wonderfully colored so you ll do great and maybe refine your eye.

  5. I think you're doing well, and I like the patterned fabric interspersed with the solids. It adds some interest. The class should be fun. Can't wait to hear what you think of it!

  7. Sounds like an interesting class to take, does she mention anything about also having different values of the colours? As she suggested 12-24 I would pick light and dark values of each colour.. Have fun I think you are heading in the right direction but need some blues, green, purple pink.

  8. You do need that something to take place for blue. I would follow the title of the workshop and bring something relatively blue which reads as dark. I agree with Barb, color gets all the credit but it is values that play bigger role. I love that you are going with prints. Enjoy the workshop!

  9. Looks like you have a good collection, if you can fill in with some purple/violet/blue ranged fabrics. I would be sunk--I just don't have much solid fabric.
Sounds like a really interesting class.

  14. I think you've done a great job so far, just add in blue and a deeper purple/violet! Sounds like it should be a very interesting and educational class! Have Fun!
