Marchés aux Puces/ Flea Market

While at the quilt show in France, Will told me she was going to a flea market nearby! Well, that sounded like a lot of fun, so Cory and I made our way there the following morning.

But first this antique quilt was at the show.

I thought it was so wonderfully prim and sweet!

A dog? Wolf? Something else?

When I saw this at the flea market I thought of that prim quilt! So adorable in a primitive way.

This is a beautiful bowl. I always think of Lizzy and her lovely thrifting plate or China finds. It was super lovely.
I do collect different textiles and when I saw this cute child's sailor style shirt I had to get it! (I do need a child size hangar for it though)

Then I went back and got another one!

This was on the inside back where our labels usually are.

We had just been in Normandy so hubby and the seller dug through a can of metal army guys. These 2 came home with us.

That was a lot of fun and a great addition to our last day in Nantes.

Let's have a great week!

  1. Love the primitive quilt! For some reason, it makes me think it's a record of someone's visit or life in the western US. A person fishing (trout or salmon maybe?), a pair of buffalo (though 1 reminds me more of a moose?), a teepee & cabin, mountains, a longhorn, and that could be a wolf. Though my first thought was "Very Angry Kitty!".

  3. Thanks for sharing those quilts. So precious. I have actually seen other quilts pieced like that with an embroidery looking stitch. I just looked at that quilt and could see all of the time and creativity that the maker had put into it. I am so glad that it stood the test of time. My son lives in Germany and he comes across a lot of antiques that people just don't seem to appreciate.

  4. This is my dream trip! And how fun that Cory found something cool and of interest to collect. Did you bring the chintzware bowl home for me? [kidding], those roses and the picotage, swoon. Your travels this years are so diverse--and it's only May.

  5. PS I have a darling American boy's sailor ''dress'', c 1900, barred pique, if you want another sailor thing. Gift of course to you.

  6. These are really sweet textiles that were made with love and creativity. The children's clothes, made so skillfully, are exquisitely genuine. The appliquéd items are the sort of things my French neighbor makes with her grandchildren. Precious!
