Month 5 Sweet Land of Liberty

My blocks this month are super primitive! I'm just rolling with it. It will be such a busy quilt that these blocks will fit right in! LOL

Here's the log house. It will measure 9 1/2" square unfinished. You will see in the photo below we add a
1 1/2"x 9 1/2" strip to the bottom.
Also we will be adding 3 pieces to the top. You will cut these 3 1/2"x 4 1/2".
The tin man and three girls are what is in Cheri's quilt and pattern. I had just made that tin man in my ABC quilt so I opted for girls from Cheri's "Golly Gee" quilt. (pattern in her facebook group files) I drew and sewed  mine to be 6" finished! What a hoot they are! Skinny legs, crooked necks, heads on shoulders! LOL
Cut the sashing 1 1/4". I made my outside border a little wider than that then trimmed to complete block to 14 1/2" square (unfinished size)

I actually redid them and haven't had a chance to add the sashing yet.
We are making 4 more economy patch blocks that finish at 4".
And 4 more flying geese that, unfinished, will measure 4 1/2"x 2 1/2'

Here is the house with the 3 pieced backgrounds above it and 3 stars.

Here are Denise's super sweet amazing blocks!

So this is the May blocks. It's coming along nicely!!

  1. On to month 5, I'm excited to begin. This month looks like it won't take as much time so maybe I can catch up on a few of the pieces from previous months. Thanks.

  7. These look fun--I am in various stages of completion with my blocks so have not posted. Thanks for doing this Lori. I find myself drawn to working on this when I should be finishing other projects or working (ugh)

  8. Hi Lori you have me inspired to restart this quilt and had the pattern. In February 2008 I posted about starting it http://karrinscrazyworld.blogspot.com/2008/02/sweet-land-of-liberty.html I spent all day yesterday tearing apart my sewing room looking for it. I seem to remember loaning it to someone but forgot who. So I guess I will be going back and getting your measurements for the blocks. Thanks for the inspiration!
