Fabric on Friday!

I knew I had better get busy on my garment for Houston.
I need to learn to choose patterns that can use quilting cotton, but I had it so I started in. My plan was to have the larger print on top like the pattern, but I used the wrong pattern piece! So I wasn't sure what to do next so I sent a photo off to Sunny (Gone to the Beach blog) and my daughter for help.

Sunny gave me the courage to cut off the sleeve and use this berry fabric instead of the stripe.
The next 2 photos were ones I sent to her. She was very patient! LOL I'm a huge visual learner so interpreting words only was difficult.

LOL!!!

So this print is now the flounce and not the kimono.

The next day I wrote to the Humble Quilts group for help. And they came through for me!
Thank you so much friends!!I should be ready to model my garments next week for you.

Here's my Instagram feed for the week.

I'm really enjoying seeing all the Sajou starts!! So many fun center pieces- A lovely monogram, George Washington and beautiful floral prints.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I don't think my machine knows how to make clothes. Good for you!

  2. Do you have to use certain fabrics for the Houston garments or whatever you want? I used to make clothing but stopped when I began quilt making.

  3. My sister and I were pattern shopping last week and I almost bought that pattern. Like you, I loved the fabric combo. I’m sure yours will turn out fine! I rarely make clothes any more. Mostly it’s a bit of mending! I’ve pulled some choices for Sajou!

  5. The fabrics are so pretty. I'm sure it will look great! I feel your pain for clothes making. The patterns look so easy in the store but in my sewing room it's another story!

  6. It's going to look so cute! And the cotton should soften up and be drapey-er [drapier?] as you wear it and wash it.

  7. I tried making clothes years ago...my quilts typically fit way better by wrapping them around me and adding a belt or scarf!! Wishing you success on your outfit - you will make this work for sure. (BTW - my cutting table has a number of options laid out for Sajou...your new SAL is so tempting - hoping to find a stash of time in the closet too)

  8. I think the final outcome will look good with the busier print as the flounce.
Having made most of my own clothes, and those of my children, for decades, it surprises me how much the idea of making clothing scares me now! :)
I have Sajou all cut out so far. Hoping I can get it sewn together before we take off.
