I really love it. It has a lot of brushed cottons so its a bit cozy but also has bright homespuns so it really sparkles as well!! Not usually a homespun descriptive term.
I won this pattern and a box of fabric from quilt historian Barbara Brackman. The original pattern called for 12" blocks, but I opted to make them 8".
I thought overall fan quilting would be good for this quilt that would be on Lincolns childhood bed in 1820. We will ignore that it likely would have been hand quilted or tied. Diane Knott did a fantastic job of quilting. She has a fast turn around time too, so check her out if you are looking for a longarm quilter.
I still had to trudge out in the deep snow again for a place to hang and photograph the quilt. It is March 13th Mother Nature!!
In my box of homespuns was this bright orange that actually fit right in- who cares if it was my son's boxer shorts?!! LOL I finally got a chance to use them in a quilt!
Here is my pieced backing with a good size chunk of Abe fabric from my friend, Jill's stash. It was a very muddy green so it works perfect on the back of this quilt.
And my label.
I'm going to be at the quilt museum in LaConner, WA on Saturday around 11:15ish followed by lunch. I'd love to have you join me and a few friends!
The doll swap is almost full,
so if you want in please send me your
full name, mailing address and email.
The deadline of March 25th will be overridden when I reach 70 swappers.
Have a fantastic day!

Excellent job on your Abe Lincoln quilt, Lori, including the back and the label. The plaids really make it, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see that quilt I know making one is in my future. Absolutely love it! Great fabrics on the front--and the back! Beautifully quilted, too :)
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. I like it with the 8# blocks.
ReplyDeleteSooo beautiful quilt ! Congrats to Diane for the quilting !
ReplyDeletei absolutely love this pattern and quilt...excellent job! it does truly look vintage even with the boxer shorts plaid...LOL!
ReplyDeleteSuperb! I love everything about this quilt. Great job by all - designers, piecer (and fabric chooser!) and quilter. Well done!
ReplyDeleteHow lucky you were to win the kit and you did such a great job. It's gorgeous! I also will trudge through the snow to take a quilt photo....usually without dressing properly first! Lol...just can't help myself!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful, with just the right pops of warm yellows and oranges to make it even more homey. Love everything about it! I started a version after seeing yours, though our selection of homespuns is all dark and fairly dull. Will need to find a couple of brights to punch it up a bit. A beautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteCan something be breathtakingly cozy? Because that is what comes to mind when I look at this quilt. It doesn't get cozier than a plaid quilt, IMO. Gotta love the orange boxer shorts finding a home here.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt so much! It was a pleasure to quilt it for you. Those fabricate yummy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to use up plaids! Had to pin it.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful with all,of the bright pops of color! Baptist fans are just perfect for this quilt. Have fun at the museum - I look forward to seeing your pictures :0)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great. Your Quilter did a great job with the fans. Tell Joy Neal Hello if you meet her at LaConner. What a way to spend National Quilting Day, with like minded Quilters.
ReplyDeleteYou know I am in hot love with this...plaid heaven! Great job, Lori!!!
ReplyDeletethis is beautiful! Sure it would be cozy on a cold day.
ReplyDeleteI can't begin to tell you how much I love this quilt, Lori. When I see all those warm, inviting homespuns (I call them plaids), I want to pull that quilt off the clothes line and wrap it around me. It looks so homey and comfortable. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWonderful Finish Lori. Love the photos in the snow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt. The fabrics and colors make it warm, cozy and inviting. We have boatloads of snow here (we got 35 inches in the month of February). Now we have ice and rain. Spring is coming, right?!?
ReplyDeleteA beautiful quilt! I love everything about it!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great quilt! Love the fabrics, pattern, and fan quilting! Now whatever bed you put it on can be the Lincoln bedroom! lol
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job! Love this quilt so much! It looks so warm and cozy. I am so tempted to make something similar.
ReplyDeleteI just acquired a bunch of fabric from an auction and am trying sort out the repro fabric from the more modern. For some reason I didn't include the plaids and check type fabrics with the repro but I see you have a lot of it in your quilt. Time to re-sort! This is a lovely, comfy, cozy looking quilt that says "use me".
ReplyDeleteI don't think this could have turned out any better!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beauty. I liked it when you first talked about it, and I like it still. I may have to make one from my box of plaids.
ReplyDeleteA lovely snuggly quilt Lori. Love the quilting also. If I'm not too late, please add me to the Doll Swap. I have been busy and must have missed your earlier call out!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful finish.
ReplyDeleteI just love everything about this quilt! I think if anyone had never seen a quilt before and didn’t know what it was, this would be the perfect example. Love the fabrics and the quilting, so special to have some of your son’s clothing included.
ReplyDeleteI like the backing fabric.
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt, and I love the fan quilting that was done on it! Great finish!
ReplyDeleteI just saw this quilt at the museum last week and took a picture just to remember what it looked like! You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteLOVE! How did you make your quilt label?
