After I successfully printed a pattern on freezer paper for wool applique I got this great idea! I'd scan the bird pattern, reverse it for fusible, then print the pattern. Sounds like an awesome idea, right?
Except for some reason my paper was NOT fusing. It was so strange. Pressing, vigorous ironing and stitching commenced and it still wasn't working.
I left it and went about my merry way. I don't know if it was one or two days later, but I was browsing a store for fishing supplies and I had a light bulb moment!
What the heck was I think to use freezer paper instead of fusible????? LOL
It was a little scary for a bit, thinking I'm really losing it, but with a few laughs and encouragement from Kevin the Quilter I pushed it aside and moved forward.
I seriously hope I'm not the only one that does stupid and obvious mistakes now and then.
Getting ready for a mid-week adventure and making sure Elsa's feet haven't grown. She looks excited, doesn't she? She would rather wear them then burn her feet on hot ground.

ReplyDeleteI marked a quilt recently for hand quilting, it's in the frame now and I've started. I'm realizing I made a mistake in the marking, a rookie kind of mistake. I'm not going to redo it but you'd think after more than 40 years of quilting I'd remember these things!!! Your block is going to be lovely, happy stitching!

ReplyDeleteI bought 3 yards of fusible a couple of weeks ago and can’t find it. I cleaned up piles in my sewing room yesterday and still can’t find it. Going to have to buy some more!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. I have done some really dumb things and wonder why it didn't work. I think our concentration is on the next step or other things altogether and the process doesn't all come together.

ReplyDeleteThanks for my morning laugh! Oh my yes, have I made some pretty obvious stupid mistakes too! One of my favorite quilt related funnies is when I once taught an all night quilt class and after a fun night of piecing we were busy basting everyone's tops when I decided to use the new water soluble thread. I kept licking the thread to be able to thread the needle when all of a sudden I realized why the thread wasn't visible! That was a real "duh" moment! Have fun on your adventure!

I was glad to see those protectors for Elsa's feet. There is a asphalt mountain trail just behind us and temps recently a constant over 100. Lots of times I see poor dogs dancing down the trail with little whines for accompaniment. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the hot ground that's hurting them.

I love that somehow the eureka moment came to you in a FISHING store. Funny how the human mind works. Which is just what Elsa is thinking, tho I love her summer sneakers.

As you can see from the many comments, we all have our "duh" moments. You going public with yours helps those of us who thought we were alone in our stellar moves. :)

ReplyDeleteIt’s just so good to know We’re not the only ones. Just tonight I was looking for my reading glasses I was sure I’d placed on the bed. Hubby helped me look, then I glanced at him and had to laugh...he was wearing them! Bright blue glasses, my fun ones. He didn’t find it quite as funny as I did.
