This is a big quilt that I've been handquilting for about 5 years now. Gay at Sentimental Stitches offered it as a free BOM. (follow her blog! She hosts amazing BOM's! and offers sales frequently) She copied the pattern from a quilt she purchased. I still love this so much! I wish I wasn't such a slow quilter. I brought it out as soon as our summer weather broke. Someone mentioned on Instagram they'd like to get a better look, so here ya go.
This quilt is about 100" square.
The original quilt had wonderful motifs quilted and Gay gave us the patterns for those as well and I copied them to my quilt. I also outline stitched around the applique and am crosshatching about 1 1/2" apart. (very humble cross hatching)
Porter looks like he was about ready to plop down.... No, keep on moving, Porter.
I think I have about 5 blocks to finish then on to the border. I have not quilted around the border applique yet and I'm not sure I will.

I'm enjoying seeing all the Sajou quilts coming along. I have to admit I didn't think about the quilt being on point when everyone was using a toile pictorial. I don't know why it won't look just as nice on a table top, so your center won't be sideways. Nothing wrong with hanging a little quilt on point either!
I'm so sorry if any of you have been affected by the horrible hurricane Micheal. So hard to think of the destruction it has caused. Please take care of yourself.

ReplyDeleteSo nice to see your BTCT quilt and all the progress you have made...you are almost there!! (I just did simple vertical straight line hand quilting in the borders - seems like that was what it needed and it took me about 5 years too! ) Taking that last stitch will have to be done with a lot of celebration. Keep going - it is a beauty.

Last year I saw an amazing exhibit at a big quilt show of Antique American quilts in Alsace. Yours can deffinitely compete! Well done!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE your quilt & have long admired Gay's patterns. I have one of her's in progress, title is something British.... But I can't recall it. It can be embroidery or applique, which I'm doing slowly. If I were your neighbor we would have that quilt finished soon!! I am pretty quick if I have the right kind of needle. I usually use a John James between a small one, but I've recently tried Tulip needles, and like them too. Happy hours quilting!
