Paducah and Beyond

I loved this exhibit of the US Presidents!

This quilt "spoke" volumes!

Then we hit the road and stopped to see random and not so random things!

We went up up and away in the arch! That was fun!

The view from the other side of the Missouri River

Quick! What's the capital of Missouri?

We stopped at a few of the recommended quilt shops and antique stores.

We like to get off the beaten path sometimes.

I love seeing new areas that I haven't been before! I've covered quite a bit of ground lately!

Road Trip.... Paducah or Bust

First stop, Nashville!
We got in last so had a good night rest before exploring.
We opted for the hop-on, hop-off bus.

So interesting to see this in Nashville!
The Parthenon in Centennial Park, Nashville, Tennessee, United States, is a full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens, Greece. It was designed by architect William Crawford Smith and built in 1897 as part of the Tennessee Centennial Exposition.

Cumberland River. (Now I want a selvage that says Cumberland!)

The Pickers Nashville antique store.

Marathon Auto Works is a large cool building that houses many little shops and antique displays.

Antique Malls were high on our stops!

"Last Train to Clarksville" is a song by American rock band the Monkees. It was released as the band's debut single on August 16, 1966, and was later included on the group's self-titled album, which was released on October 10, 1966.

Driving through Dover, TN and saw this amazing painted quilt!

Backyard Fabric in Mayfield, KY was GREAT! The day before Paducah show was our day to see as much as we could! This was our first stop.

The white building in the center is the shop! Cute, huh?
Hancock's of Paducah! I was actually surprised to see that many quilters in town on Tuesday before the show.

This is a "quilt" made of wood! It is in the lobby of the quilt museum. That's the next post.

I hope your week is going good.
I let the Facebook group know there are new fabrics and vintage quilt blocks on my Etsy shop. Take a peek if you'd like.

Several of these are already sold out! Sorry!

This is just a sampling of what I've been putting in the store.

Corn and Beans!

Always nice to get surprises in the mail!

Laurie and I had another challenge using corn fabric after our Midwest trip.  There was no date to get it done but I knew once I saw hers I better get busy!

Corn and Beans! Made by Laurie for me!

She knows that green print is my favorite and really, it makes terrific beans too!

I wanted to make a corn and beans too......
I ended up with ONE block! The pattern I found really stunk and it was hard to get together!
So I opted to border one 7" block and call it good. She got the short end of the stick on this challenge! haha

This was the challenge fabric.

And, in case you missed this......

Another Photo Heavy Post!

I'd like to share a few quilt shops we went to on our Midwest road trip. And a few other random photos! In no particular order on my blog:

This first one was jammed packed. It is called The Quilted Moose in Gretna, NE

Since nobody is paying me for reviews, I'll just say this was the least friendly quilt store that we shopped.

Loved Country Sampler in Omaha.

Laurie and I had a conversation about what the Midwest is known for other than corn. She convinced me it was pork! I thought if it was true this photo was appropriate. Photo taken in the cute town of Walnut, Iowa.

And corn! Lots of corn!

This big shop with retreat center is in Elk Horn, Iowa! It is a historically Danish town.

I only have one photo of this amazing quilt Laurie purchased at the store next to the Iowa Quilt Museum in Winterset. It's a real beauty!

Saw this lovely quilt at an antique store around Des Moines

A little unusual, soft and charming.

With this sweet backing!

The Quilted Windmill is in the adorable town of Pella, Iowa. (founded by immigrants from the Netherlands)

Wherever you see a giant line you must jump in and find out why!

The beautiful tiles were on a side of a building.

Laurie was a good sport to stop when I yelled STOP! Photo op!

We headed toward the town of Amana and several other small towns associated with the German colony of Amana.  This place had some beautiful, but overpriced quilts.

Historic store built from limestone.

A quilt shop in Amana that was too busy chatting amongst themselves to even greet us.

The town had a woolen mill.
The history of the German group is a little weird, but they made great buildings! Read more HERE

Photo op! Wellman Iowa

We headed to the town of Kalona, Iowa.

It's an Amish community.

We got in rather late in the day and knew most everything would be closed, but we walked through town anyway.

On the sidewalk with a corresponding brick quilt block.

Calico Hutch quilt shop-Hayward Minnesota- pretty much out in the corn fields! haha

I'm not even sure where this is except Lakefront Park

I thought this was so cute! This was in Chippewa Falls, WI

Point Comfort State Park

Cool historic building in Chippewa Falls.

As you can see I LOVED seeing a part of the USA that I haven't seen up close and personal before.

I hope you have enjoyed tagging along with me. I have one more quilt shop to share. (PS I saved the best for last!)
