Napkin Quilt Challenge

I've never heard of that either, but I saw the exhibit of quilts at Quiltworks and boy was it a good one! The ladies drew a napkin and they were to use it for inspiration to make a quilt.
The inspiration napkins hang to the right of the quilt.

I think the Poppies are my favorite.

What is the best quilt challenge you've ever been involved with? I admit I'm not good at them at all!

  2. I love the beach houses. Interestingly they're only a small part of the original, but beautifully developed.

  3. really neat inspiration idea--they're really all out there aren't they? You have to really "look"! Thanks for sharing, hugs, Julierose

  4. What a fun idea! Their creativity is amazing. The only challenge I have ever participated in required use of a specific piece of fabric and the quilt had to represent an idiom of the maker's choice.

  11. Those are amazing! I'm horrible at challenges usually, but I did win a 2-color quilt challenge at my guild in TX, but that's because I already had started it before it was announced. It was the airplane quilt that I made 2 of for my 2 pilot sons. Plus the judge was partial to vintage designs and this was one. :-) Otherwise, I usually don't even enter them.

  16. A very interesting challenge. Some took the challenge more literal and others played with color or an element from the napkin. I don't know what I would have done for any of them.

  19. They are so creatively interesting and beautiful! The challenge was interpreted so differently from one person to the next. Such fun! I love the elephant the most. I haven't participated in a challenge yet because I am afraid I won't have the time to finish the project before the deadline. It is on my to do list to try it at least once. So I started to follow the blog "Le Challenge" and I might participate in Feb since it is the dot challenge. If you are interested in knowing more here the blog:

  22. That is a fun challenge but I would be worried about copyrights?
We did one where we each sent another person, objects and fabrics and then we had to use all the materials to make a quilt.
I got stuck with mine but then I sat on it and thought about it and came up with a fun way to use it all.

  23. Love the challenge theme with the napkins! What a great idea. Those are some awesome quilts. I am never thrilled with the challenge quilts I've made, but I sure do love seeing what other folks come up with. I agree about the poppies. The pieced background really sparkles.

  25. What a clever idea, and the interpretations are amazing. I wished there were more, it was so fascinating to see what was created from the napkin inspiration. : )

  27. I have to admit I've pocketed a few napkins in the past because of their inspirational designs but haven't followed through with the concept. I'll have to rediscover the ones I have. Lovely display.

  28. We did something in our guil but you had a paper gift bag with a piece of fabric in it and you had to use the pic on the front of the bag for inspiration and use the fabric from the bag. It was a lot of fun and had some great quilts come from it. Hugs,

  29. What a fabulous idea! I love it! Thanks for showing us!

One of my fav challenges was for the 10 year anniversary of a local newspaper. We were each given a front page of the newspaper from somewhere within the 10 years and we were to make a quilt inspired by the front page of the paper. It was named "black and white and read allover".
