Uptown Complete!

This was my first completed quilt of 2024!

I made the blocks a little smaller than Gayle's original quilt. My blocks finish at 11.5"
It is still a good size quilt that measures approx 81"x 65"

I used Pepper Cory's shot cotton for the green setting triangles and the blocks background. I love the look, but it does tend to ravel a bit if you handle the block too much.

I had a lot of cheddar solid and opted to use that on the back.

Feels good to have this one completed!

After the big snow and ice storm we are having a couple of days to tease us about spring.
We hit the trails for a little bit because I know Old Man Winter is on his way back soon!

Let's have a terrific week!

Uptown Final Block and Other Fun on Friday!

Thanks so much for all your terrific comments. Some are coming to my email and some are not. Sorry if I didn't get to respond. Many of you do not have an email associated so I can't contact you.

On to Fun on Friday post!

Assembling the top after finishing the last block!

I trimmed my blocks to finish at 12" so my overall quilt top will be about 69"x85"

That one was the final block!

I need to run a stitch around the edge and am considering using a solid cheddar for the backing since I have yards and yards of it! Happy to have this together.

This is a Sue Spargo pattern, just using it here for the visual effect.

When I was in CA last month at the Folsum County Quilt Guild, right before my presentation I started to get a black spot in my eye. Thinking it was smeared mascara, I asked my host and she said it was fine, but maybe it was a floater. I have never heard of that, but the show went on. I got eye drops from Donna but it still did not go away. I think the last time I had an eye appt I was in high school so I made an appt after I arrived home. I was the navigator on our Midwest road trip and we laughed a few times because I wasn't a lot of help with reading road signs, etc.
Last Friday I saw the eye dr and he told me he wanted me to see a retina specialist soon. I went to see him on Tuesday and I had a retina hole. Yikes! I had a laser procedure done which should help it heal. He said I should be doing no lifting (you mean like a backpack or weights? Too late on that!) I will be more careful until I return for my followup visit.
I know floaters are common as we age, but please make sure to see an eye dr for periodic exams. It could have ended up much worse and I am extremely grateful I listed to my intuition.

NEXT:

We are leaving for Italy on Saturday! Vernazza is one of the towns on the Italian Riviera we will be staying and hiking. I have been to Italy with my daughter 5 years ago and am so excited to share this with Cory!

That is why I am putting Etsy on vacation mode. I'm not sure what kind of posts I'll have but I'll give updates in my Facebook group! Link HERE if you'd like to join.

Soon after I arrive home I will doing this years quiltalong called Parsonsfield! Its an unusual one but I hope you all will like it!

Uptown ♫Grrrrlll ♪♪♫

When I am prepping an Uptown BOM  blog post I always think of THIS song by Billy Joel!

One more block after this one! Whoop! Whoop!

It shouldn't take too much to get it together. YAY!

We were able to get to another outdoor concert- it was so good!
Australian Pink Floyd!
They were so good!

We are having a lovely summer and I hope you are too!

Uptown BOM Plus Summer Fun!

Happy Friday! Here's my next Uptown block. Do you know there are only 2 blocks left?! Whoop! Whoop!

I've started assembling the blocks and leaf sprig blocks. I'm setting them like the antique.

I've been having summer fun as well!

Family time at the beach.

LOVE the flower explosion in the damper climate. (remember I'm in the desert)

Elsa had a lot of fun too!

The "kids" treated us to a concert- it was actually a father's day gift. Dinner too!
It was a lovely night for an outdoor summer concert. Who, you ask? Tears for Fears.

Have a lovely weekend!

Fun on A Friday

Here is block 17 of Uptown! I hope to start getting them trimmed and assembled.  Nice to have some of that done before the end which is near.

I'm way ahead of the game for our 2023 quiltalong! Just put the final binding stitches in last night.

Hubby and I made it out for a nearby hike with a moderate elevation gain. Love some of the spring weather we are having. Of course now it is supposed to shoot up into the 80's and 90's next week!

I had a good week and am looking forward to another training hike with my daughter on Saturday.

I'm going to a winery tonight to listen to a Beatles tribute band. Should be a fun night.

Have a lovely weekend!

♫ Uptown ♫ ♫ Block 16

Block 16 of Uptown is complete!

I know I've mentioned it but the countdown to trekking in Peru is on!

My daughter, me, and my backpacking friend Sophie did a 10 miler on the Columbia Gorge this past weekend.

It was a route I saw that the Gorge Runners are doing as a race. It certainly was tough and not extremely scenic, but a great training hike!

It was up, up, up (1700'elevation) then meandered on this rocky logging road, then back down, down, down. I'm feeling pretty good! For the next 6 weeks I'll be hiking mileage and elevation as much as I can.

Let's make it a fantastic week!

Uptown BOM+ Museum Quilts

It was a little dark when I finished this block last night. Uptown block 15.
Whoop! Whoop! I think we are closing in to the end!

Look at this adorable little dolly quilt that was at the New England Quilt Museum!

I like that it is a wee bit humble.

At first glance I'm never a fan of this style of quilt.....

But an upclose look changes my mind really fast!

I'll bid you adieu with this lovely couple!

Have a wonderful weekend!
