Marie Antoinette

I have been intrigued with this French General panel of Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, since I've seen it.
I finally just purchased it.

I have no plan at this time, it was just charming and quirky and I had to have it!!

President's Day USA

Today is Monday and President's Day.

I love history and although history isn't always pleasant I hope we continue to learn from it!

I think I have a few of these George Washington "panels". they measure about 4"x8". Let me know if you are interested. I made the above wall hanging for the Humble Quilts panel challenge which I thought was a lot of fun. Send me an email if you may be interested in GW. I'm selling them for $5 no shipping charges unless you are international. humblequilts@gmail.com

Thank you to all who purchased books! I appreciate your support!! I have a handful left if you want to look HERE.

This was Sunday morning, such a beautiful morning!

This morning is like blizzard conditions! No blue sky here!!

If you are flying this winter, be kind and be patient! My hubby works at the local airport and it's been a s**tshow to put it mildly. They hand shovel a path from the airplane to the airport, unload and load luggage, clean planes, help people with wheelchairs, spray deicer in blizzard/sleet conditions, etc, Plan on delays and cancellations and if all goes well be happy! It's winter and the people working and flying are HUMAN!
My public service announcement for the day.

Have a great week!

More Retreat Sewing

My main project was to get the final 2 borders of my cousins walk bird sampler done!

One border, whew!

2 borders! Yay! I  need to attach them and get the corner applique complete. I'm so close! This son of a gun is HUGE! 102"x116" or something like that! No more giant quilts for me (for awhile)

In between I had some easy houses cut and ready to sew.

I worked on a liberated flying geese border for the basket

As I was making them I wasn't feeling the love at all. We tried a few different things and none felt right.

So I've got a new plan.  The above photo is not the new plan.

Carrie was working on this sweet little quilt.

And she completed the top! She also is a cross stitcher on tiny linen. She does amazing pieces!

Here is Michelle working on her panel quilt.

I love the outer border.

Both Michelle and Christy worked on this little heart quilt.

Christy had just a few days with us and she was laser focused on the Indigo Mystery from Bonnie Hunter. She sent us this photo after she got home and laid it out. Lookin' great!

I did get my first quilt of the year complete while retreating and I'll share that next week!

Have an amazing weekend.

Mahvelous Monday!

And here we are again on another Monday! I've got a little of this and that to share this morning.

An oldie but good in my possession! Not sure what I'll do with it yet.

And these! Sold on Etsy this weekend. I remember these prints well! I wonder if we will ever get these style of prints designed again  since the Civil War seems to be controversial these days.
Thank you to all who made purchases from my Etsy store! I appreciate you all very much!

Bohemia flour sack. My friend Laurie uses them for backing and that was/is my plan, but although faded I am hesitant about cutting it.

These are a little smaller.
What would you do with old bags?

I was able to get into Portland and go hiking with my daughter!

Fairy Falls with iphone long exposure.

Behind us is the iconic Multnomah Falls.

5.7 miles with good uphill, downhill, 5 waterfalls and delicate early spring forest flowers!

Next week we are chasing wildflowers. The gorge is in full bloom right now!

Fickle Friday

I was the lucky recipient of a few of these lovely panels!

I've been keeping my eyes open for the Southern Generals for about 1 year for someone who asked me about them. Yay! I finally found her one. Her husband is a Civil War buff and she wanted both (north and south generals) panels.
I offered these on the facebook group before adding them to the Etsy store. I'm happy to say they all found a home!

I'm not sure if I shared this on my blog, but I found some of this at a quilt store in Montana! It is so old I cannot believe it wasn't marked down. Needless to say I purchased all of it.

Here was a lovely gift of "leftovers" from Laura in Idaho. It is a lot of reproductions! Thanks again!

Two sisters wrote these books. Kay was in my class in Idaho.  She was so kind and gave them to me as a gift. Thank you again Kay! I was saddened to hear her sister is suffering from Alzheimer's. Many of you know I walked that road with my mom.

Hubby and I went out to see if the hedgehog cactus were blooming. We have had a late winter and thought we may be a tad early.

This was the only ONE we saw blooming!

It isn't a long hike, but it is a steep one. Not sure I'll go back this year.

Next week I'll be sharing some stitching I've been doing! Feels good to be back in my sewing room.

Have an exceptional weekend!

Historic Panel Challenge Finale! Link up!

Welcome 2023!

This is not a great photo. I was slipping around in the mud trying to keep the quilt from getting dirty!
I started with the Bill Cody panel and added quarter square triangles that my friend Linda has given me. I machine quilted on the diagonal. Even though I say it is complete I want to add a few hand quilting stitches in the panel itself.
This star print came on the panel and I used it around my label.

I'm sharing this photo so you can up close the backing and binding fabric.

You can see here that the center needs a little quilting. Overall I'm super happy with it.
It measures approx 45"x58"

The next little one
The center is a small George Washington panel.

If you click to get a better look the first fabric that surrounds it is similar, but different.

I only had a little of this great fabric so had to piece the back for the little quilt.

So grateful to Sharon for sharing a little fabric with me so I could keep the binding fabric consistent with the other blue star fabric.

It feels great to use those panels! I have a couple of George Washington panels if anyone is interested shoot me an email at humblequilts@gmail.com

I hope you are ready to link up- at least your top! I cannot wait to see the quilts you have created. If you don't know how to link up feel free to send me a photo.

Whatnot Wednesday

After returning from our mission trip to DR on December 7th I feel like I've started the Christmas holiday behind a little bit.
I've been doing a little of this and a little of that.

Putting up simple decor.

Attending a holiday party with this adorable snoozer!

Made a trip to the local cemetery to see Wreaths Across America on my dad and father-in- laws graveside. Have you heard of this?  I think this was only the 2nd year they have done it locally.

With one week to spare Cory put up a few house lights,

And put up his reproduction bubble lights inside.
No tree this year.

I'm running out of time, but I did get my Cody panel basted. Now I must get busy machine quilting it!
Any thoughts on quilting the panel?

One more thing, I've switched my blog reader to feedly. If I have been missing your blog, feel free to leave a link! I know I didn't get them all transferred over.

Countdown to Christmas! Boom! Let's go!
