 Glory Bee! Patriotic Quilts from my Collection

I have loved patriotic quilts and patriotic colorways since I took my first quilt class! I love history as well and these two loves go hand in hand. 

I will be at Northwest Quilters, Inc  Monday, March 9, 2026, at 9:30 am, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7810 SE 15th Ave, Portland, Oregon.

Most guilds have a small charge for guests but if you will be close by please stop in and be sure to say HI!

I am sure hoping this laryngitis I have is gone before Monday! We have a quick little getaway planned for the next few days and I am going to try and preserve my voice!!

I have loved patriotic quilts and patriotic colorways since I took my first quilt class! I love history as well and these two loves go hand in hand.  I hope my lecture will inspire you to start your own collection of  Americana quilts!

The large one is in the Smithsonian, so I won't be bringing that one! lol 

I do hope to make a little progress on my 250 year eagle quilt and bring it for inspiration.

The Flying Geese Quilt Guild was very welcoming! It is so wonderful to be meeting in person!!

Show and Tell is always inspiring.

This quiltmaker took a basket class with Gwen Marston. 

She admitted she has a hard time with the liberated parts of Gwen's basket class.  But the quilts are so sweet!

I am really inspired by this strippy style setting!

I'm trying to eek out as much summer I can! The blog may be hit or miss for the next month. 

Photo credit- Michelle. We went out for a peaceful one nighter. Hikes or backpacking trips don't always have to be hard to be wonderful. 

We walked around the lake to see what campsites were available. Mt Hood peaking out beyond Upper Twin Lake. 

Elsa loves coming, but she isn't the best tentmate! 

I was wondering how she was going to get back. She fell off right after this. The water was low so she didn't even have to swim.

If she would sleep more at night, she wouldn't need such a long recovery nap! lol

We were waiting for Cory to arrive. I asked if he wanted to come to the mountain and pick huckleberries! YUM! 

I still have a few books left. Thank you to all who purchased! They all went out in the mail today!

I know this is an American holiday, but I hope we can all agree across the world that the freedom we have is precious! Bless you all, my sweet quilt friends!

Wild Country USA!

We have been in Wyoming staying on our property, trying to figure out a game plan for moving forward to build here.

I got the binding complete on the little flag quilt.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to have a little photo op before we leave!

For the desert at 6000' elevation we have a array of wildflowers. 

And prickly pear cactus.

Most nights we have had amazing sunsets.

We went hiking on a day the weather was not going to be too hot.

I cannot watch the news any more since I feel like there is so much negativity and divisiveness. I think that is what "they" (who the heck is they, anyway??) want. We are more unified than separate! My ancestors arrived on the Mayflower, others around 1915 from Poland, and the Irish side a couple generations earlier. I am indebted to them and all those who sacrificed to give all of us the lives we enjoy and all too often take for granted.

One of the George Washington panels are going to Cathy Washburn who commented on facebook. 

She wrote: As an American, especially a woman, we are very fortunate. We have more rights and privileges than almost any other country. My ninth great grandfather was born on a ship coming to America in the 1700’s. So I feel very lucky to be here.

Jocelyn is also a winner of a GW panel, She wrote:

Both of my parents are first generation Americans. They never took this freedom for granted. We truly do live in the greatest country in the world, as so many others are under oppression rule. I thank God for the freedoms that our fore fathers fought for. And all the veterans that help to keep us free!

The final 2 little swap quilts finally made it to their overseas destinations! Whoop! Whoop!

This weekend is the Sisters Outdoor quilt show and <gasp!> I am not going! 

They are hanging 1/2 the quilts spread out more and it will be in the upper 90's. I normally would go early to avoid the heat, but I'll have to walk twice as far to see half the quilts. 

I'm going backpacking instead!

And let's remember why we celebrate.

America and its founders made mistakes and had issues, (haven't we all?) but they were independent, strong, hardy individuals that laid the foundation of the United States of America.

I am happy to live here.

Happy Independence Day!

An another note 5 years ago today we lost my mom. It happened to be one day after her birthday. Naturally I think of her birthday on July 1st and her death on July 2. 

Even with Alzheimer's I tried to meet her where she was each day. (Took me awhile to figure that out!)

Some friends and I went on our first big backpacking trip of the year. 

I picked a few of my favorite photos. 

It was hot and a hard hike but this desert girl was loving the beauty of the forest!
