Quilt show

My road trip last weekend also included 2 guild quilt shows. The photos I'm showing are a mix from both shows. The first one I went to was was the one I liked the best put on by the Pioneer Quilters in Eugene. It was held at the Lane County Historical Museum so it had a wonderful setting. There was a lot of hand quilting and by the looks of it a more traditional quilt group. They had a little booklet printed up with a short paragraph of all the quilts. From reading this the guild hand quilts each member a quilt on a rotating basis. I thought that was very cool! Do any of your guilds do that?
I've seen this quilt around a few times. I love how the quiltmaker left one basket empty.

A fun whimsical quilt by Bunny Hill.

This one was so simple but really brought a smile to my face.
This was for an elementary teacher to hang in her classroom. Adorable!!

Too stinkin' cute!!!

This quilt was made for the quiltmakers granddaughter.

Thanks for the little show, I would love a hand quilted quilt someday. I don't know of any guilds that do that.

I do know of one group of quilters who hand quilt (or used to) for a member but if I remember correctly, it does take awhile before your turn comes. It also involves a commitment on your part to be part of the group.

That hippo with the ballerina slippers sure is cute!

I have only heard of one group that did the hand quilting for their group members. They were a very tight knit group at first. Slowly members moved away because of jobs, etc. and they had to give up the idea because it wasn't practical in this day and age. People were not committed enough to follow through on finishing the promise to the original members. It is a lovely idea though.
Thanks for the show and tell--great quilts as always! :)

The animals with shoes quilt is adorable! And, no, my guild does not hand quilt for us. That does sound really nice, though. Most people I know quilt by machine or send out to be quilted by machine. I do as well, but I do hand quilt too. I hate it that not many quilters hand quilt any more.

What lovely quilts - thanks for sharing your pictures. Those little birds are so cute. :0) I don't know of any guilds that do that. Hardly anyone in my guild hand quilts at all.

I like that basket pattern on the white background. I've seen it on yellow a couple of times. I am convinced, nothing beats hand quilting. But, if you want all those tops finished you're going to have to give into machine quilting for some of them. That's what I told myself this morning. :)

LOVE that basket quilt and the bunny album quilt is cute too~!~ oh and the wee birds and that classroom quilt is a wonderful idea and animals in shoes certainly brought a smile to my face . . . maybe i just never see a quilt that i don't like for one reason or another~!?!~ lol~certainly does explain a few things . . .

the guild that i belong to consists of approximately 50 to 60 people which is a LOT for such a small rural area and sadly, there probably aren't more than a half dozen of us who hand quilt. i believe it's becoming a lost art . . .
despite the small number of hand quilters we do one quilt every year on a big floor frame and raffle it off at our annual bazaar. every other year the proceeds of this raffle go towards our local senior citizens center which happens to be where we hold our meetings.

:)

p.s. i am having a really great time with the dolly quiltalong~!~
