Country Roads Mystery Quiltalong Part 2

Country Road

 Now you will take your black strips and from each strip cut four  (4)  1 1/2"x 2 1/2" rectangle. Using your 4 patches and 1 1/2" square, lay your block out as in the photo.

Sew together in three rows, pressing your seams toward the black. Sew the rows together. (Sorry I don't have a photo of one complete block)

Ta-Da! You have an adorable 5 1/2" block (finished it will be 5") Make 9 blocks and then admire your work.

When I am home from vacation I'll have mine completed and I'll give you the final part to finish up your little Country Roads Quilt.

Country Roads Mystery Quiltalong Part 1

 In case you missed it, HERE is the requirements for Country Road Mystery Quiltalong.

 Your blue strip is going to be a bit longer than your red strip. Start by cutting one (1) 1 1/2" square from your 9 blue strips. Then sew a red and blue strip together.

 Press toward the blue. Then sub cut into eight (8) 1 1/2" rectangles. This is what you should have from each red and blue pair.

 Match them up to make four (4) four patches.

 This is what you'll have. You'll also have 9 -1 1/2" squares of your blues. 

Do that with all nine of your red and blue strips. Pretty easy, huh? Admire your cute little 4 patches.

Cascadia Finale and Reveal

If you are one of the three who have been following along with the Cascadia mystery , here it is!

Mine isn't all quilted but I did the binding prior to bringing it to Guatemala with me. 

 Here is the inspiration quilt. Isn't it adorable? I saw it on ebay and thought it would be a fun one to reproduce.

 If you haven't already,  trim the sides of your rows, leaving 1/4" seam allowance. (don't burn it like I did!)

 It doesn't really matter how wide it is, but mine finishes at 4 1/2". Your two rows may not finish exactly the same- that's okay!

One of my rows was a perfect fit but the one in the photo was not. I think it is because I sewed my edge triangles on wrong. No problem, I added a little strip to both ends. and sewed my rows together as shown in the top photo.

Here is one end with the addition of a muslin strip to make my row long enough.

I really don't think you would have noticed had I not told you. 

I hope you love your little quilt as much as I love mine. I think it is so charming!

You can see in the 2 photos above I'm stitching straight down the rows that are set on the diagonal and plan on quilting on the diagonal on the straight rows.

Cascadia Quiltalong Part 3- EDITED

Hey, I'm back and ready to give you the next step in the Cascadia mystery. I had a very rewarding trip and will be sharing photos soon.
EDITED to reflect no bias edges on the outside. (I knew I should have waited one more day to post!) If you already did it the first way, it's fine- don't change it! Ask me how I know it will work out. :)

So, here we go!

From muslin, white, light, or whatever other color you want to use, cut thirteen (13) 2 3/4" squares, then cut them on the diagonal twice to make 52 total triangles. Sew them, as shown,  to a single printed 1 1/2" square.  Make 4 of these units.

Then cut four (4)  muslin, white or light 1 3/4"" squares, then cut on the diagonal  to make 8 triangles. (this will keep the bias edge off the outside) sew to the corner, as shown.  Make 4 of these units.

 To the three square strips add the triangles from the 2 3/4 square to the ends, as shown. Make 4 like that.

Press, as shown and sew these two rows together.

Use one of your 1 3/4" corner triangles add to the end of a 5 square strip. (this will be your other corner) Add it to the end of 4 strips.

Add your quarter square triangles to the ends as shown above.

Using the rest of the triangles made from the 2 3/4" squares add them as shown to the ends of the 5 square strips.  Sew them together as shown. Make 2 of these strips.

It's been a long week with very little sleep, I sure hope this makes sense! Let me know if it doesn't.

Cascadia Quiltalong Mystery Part 2

Hello! I'm thrilled to see many jumping in and not letting the mystery part to this stop them!

Take 2 of your strips and sew them together.

Then you should have this.

Take your baggy of 1 1/2" squares strip of 5 patches- do that 20 times! (sewn, unlike mine in the photo)

Then I want you to make 4 strips of 3 patches.

You should be able to knock them out quickly. 

(I'm posting this on Tuesday for automatic posting) If I can get another  post ready to go I'll do Cascadia step 3 to go on Monday. If not, it will wait until Wednesday when I am home.

Just Takes Two

Playoff games were Sunday and I got a chance to sew the second installment of Just Takes 2 mystery.

I had a little trouble with the house block, and even though it isn't perfect, it will do. Set in seams have never been my favorite technique.

Here are all the blocks so far.

BTW, I forgot to add the giveaway will close on Saturday night. That will give me Sunday to get packages ready to mail.

Roll Roll Cotton Boll

 I finally got the binding on  Roll Roll Cotton Boll, the mystery quilt of Bonnie Hunter's from last November. I had Kathy, my machine quilter to do an all over quilt pattern, since it wasn't going to be the focus of this quilt . It is on my bed right now and I love it. Can you believe this is the largest quilt I've ever made?! Yep, the little doll quilts sure have appeal, but it is fun to have a big one!!

 I had purchased a panel with the coffee "blocks" some time ago. I needed lots of coffee to keep up with Bonnie on this one so I thought it was appropriate to put them on the back.

Carol put a call out for patriotic pillowcases. Can you believe I've never made a pillowcase before today? Here are the two I'm sending. That was a lot of fun and didn't take a huge amount of time. Maybe you'd like to help?

Linda, at Quilts in the Barn is collecting signature blocks for a raffle quilt. All the money raised will be donated to Breast Cancer Research. I made mine today but forgot to take a photo. Linda and her friends raised over $10,000 last year for this cause! So many "small" things can turn into something huge! Check it out if you would like to make a signature block.

Roll Roll Cotton Boll

 I finished the top in the nick of time to get the final step and border tomorrow. And yes, two sections of half square triangles are on wrong. I can live with it. I messed up one of the blocks too and put a different pink half on another pink half and I can live with that too! This has been fun but I am ready to slow the pace. Thanks Bonnie!!

 You all had some great suggestions for organizing and working on my hand projects. Thank you all so much who commented. I have a plan and hope to share that when the mystery frenzy is over.

Because I am keeping the parts to Midnight Stars fairly simple I'll plan on posting step 2 on Monday.

I spent the better part of yesterday cleaning and organizing my sewing room. That means I am ready to part with a few things. Hopefully my trash is your treasure...

This little bag is supposed to hold a book and has little pockets under the bird house. It's also a bit of a grab bag since I have put things inside.....Surprise!!

I was kidding myself when I thought I'd make Birds of a Feather. I believe all the patterns are here although I am not taking the time to check.

The same friend who gave me the red and white bear paw quilt surprised me by including these in the box. I know I will never do anything with them. Maybe you will? I think there is 15 of them.

Roll Roll Cotton Boll- 600 HST!!

Here they are! 600 half square triangles ironed and trimmed ready for the next step!!!

 I used triangle paper which I happen to have on hand. My 1/4" seam is not reliable so it was terrific for me to follow the lines!!

 I watched a movie last night and tore off paper. I plan on making a bonfire in the burning barrel in a few minutes!!

I received this adorable nine patch pin cushion from Julie!! Although I didn't take part in the 9 patch swap I see her as the nine patch queen!! Thank you so much Julie!!

Hubby and I  had plans today for a date but he was called into work when one of our employees called in sick. We woke up this morning to a lot of snow that fell overnight, so it is just as well, I guess. I plan on making soup with leftover roast beef and veggies. A good day for that.

Just in Time

 I finished piecing and removing the paper last night on 60 string blocks for Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll Mystery quilt!! I see part 4 is posted....whew! I just made it!

The first day of Advent arrived on Sunday. Time to put a few projects away until January and focus on celebrating the birth of our Saviour.

Wool Crazy & Cotton Boll

A few weeks ago I started on block 2 of my Wool Crazy by JoAnn. I like to add my applique pieces then do the decorative stitching. I'm just getting started but I sure do enjoy it. This block will be all about fall and winter.

Here is my completed mystery quilt step 1 of Bonnie Hunter's. And I only made 3 strips wrong! I'll be keeping them as I have a hunch I may need them for another step. If not, I'll toss them into the scrap bin.

I am hosting 15 for Thanksgiving dinner, which for me, is an army!! You all have a wonderful week.
