Parsonsfield Revisited

At the new quilt guild I am attending Nancy shared with me her Parsonfield little quilt. YAY!

The fan quilting is super sweet and perfect for this!

If you'd like to see all the quilts from this quiltalong click HERE

An orphan block name tag! What a great idea! I always forget until he morning of guild that I'd like to make a name tag. I love this!

I hope you are doing great!

Parsonsfield Humble Quilts Quiltalong

Are you ready for this years' sewalong?
This year will be a little different than the past few years. It's not a mystery!

I was inspired by an antique done in "low volume" circa 1920's
I wasn't sure how I was going to like it but I really do!

It has SO many shirtings!

I'm calling it Parsonsfield.

I've put together a little starter pack of 3" strips (12 different ones) to help you add variety to your little quilt. The cost is $6.50 plus shipping.
These range in length from 18-22" but equal 1/2 yard.

If you'd like to purchase a pack please email me with your name and address at humblequilts@gmail.com and I'll figure out postage and send a total.
If you would like a piece large enough for the backing I can sell you 2/3 of a yard for an additional $6.50.

I take paypal, venmo, cash, or check.

No problem if you have plenty! We will start next Wednesday and I sure hope you'll join in!

Land That I Love Finale!

The finished quilt as shown will be approx 18x26.5
Many of you were concerned about the busy prints and fabrics. I chose blue (like the antique) which does calm it down a bit.   (do you find my error humble design element? I only noticed after it was entirely completed.

Choose your fabric and cut:
(2) 6 1/2" squares
The following are a tad oversized to give you some wiggle room for trimming after getting your top together.
(2) 5 1/2" squares then cut once on the diagonal to make 4 triangles. These will be your 4 corners.
Cut (2) 10" squares, then cut twice on the diagonal for 8 triangles. (we will only use 6)

Lay out your pieces as shown. We will assemble them on the diagonal, row by row. When attaching rows to each other I use a pin right at the seams so the blocks will be lined up. Once you get the top together make sure to admire your lovely creation!
Layer your top, batting and backing to prepare for quilting. (if you are a new quilter and don't really know what that means ask, please!)
I machine quilted the long seams in the ditch  and hand quilted the rest.
I hand quilted one direction about 3/4" apart.
I used a red print for the binding.

Here is the vintage quilt I used for inspiration.  You can see the backing was folded over to the front to bind.

It is so charming! I hope you had fun and love your quilt! I'll have a linky party in a couple of weeks so we can all share in the finish! You can add your quilt even if it isn't quilted yet.

We went camping last weekend and I brought my little quilt to the Land That I Love for photo ops!

Have a wonderful weekend dear friends.

Land That I Love Part 4

 Happy Friday!

Today we are going to cut (6) 2 3/8 squares, then cut them on the diagonal for 12 triangles. I used lights/mediums and darks.

Then we will cut (6) 3 7/8 squares, then cut them on the diagonal for 12 larger triangles. Most of mine are mediums/darks.

This is my favorite ruler for cutting my small scraps into usable pieces, especially in a small quilt and I want most of my HST to be different.

You should have (12) 2" squares remaining that you didn't use in your little blocks we made last week.

Lay out your smaller triangles with 1 2" square as in the above photo.

Sew one triangle to the side of the square, press.

Then sew the other small triangle to the other side of the square.
Then sew that unit to the larger triangle. Make 12 of these units.

My prints and colors are a mixed bag, very scrappy and similar  to the original.

Lay them out like above and sew them together. Make 6 blocks. Your blocks should measure 6 1/2".
TADA! Stand back and admire your work!

Land That I Love Part 2

For part 2 you will need to cut 36 2" squares. If you want your quilt fairly calm use mostly lights. Feel free to use lights, mediums or darks if you want to go crazy scappy!

That was simple! yay!

I hope you watch the video. I share how I store some HST and squares.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Little Humble Quilts All Through the House

It was 90 degrees on Sunday when I was preparing to put up some fall quilts.
So, I stuck with the little ones for now!
Thee is nothign specifically autumn about these, but they remind me of fall colors, so they get to take a turn at decorating the house.

Off the Beaton Path was made originally for a swap, but I worked on it while my dad was sick and I titled it as a reminder of the fun camping trips we took- Off the Beaton Path, so ended up keeping this and making another.  I very rarely every remember staying in campgrounds.

Harmony was a quiltalong that you can find the pattern for using the search box on my blog. Love the madder prints.
Here's a little pocket with wool applique designed by Rebekah Smith.

My very first quiltalong! Cheddar Cheese and Crackers.
=
The little quilt on the right was a gift from  Lizzy I love everything about it!

This is the cute backing of the little one on the left.

The center block was an antique and I made this little quilt with that block.

Midnight Stars was a quiltalong.

And so was Country Roads.

I'll get out the larger quilts later this month. It looks like summer temps will be around for several weeks.

I hope your week is going great!

Do you EQ?

I'm not very good at Electric Quilt program but use it a little, mostly for my quiltalongs. I like to see how it may look as an actual quilt and then I can change colors etc to make it closer to the original or closer to what I had in mind.

I just found recently Electric Quilt has a really terrific YouTube channel. I think I will be referring to it fairly often when I need a little extra help. Find it HERE.

Here's a few quilts I've used EQ for

Almost Amish. You can find this pattern by using the search box on the upper left.

USED WITH PERMISSION FROM AMERICAN PATCHWORK & QUILTING®. ©2021 MEREDITH CORPORATION. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

Strings Attached. You can find this pattern in the August 2021 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting

50 Shades of Brown was my 2020 quiltalong. You can do a search to find this pattern as well.

I'd love to know if you use Electric Quilt. Which version do you have?

Because I am out of town until next weekend I am approving comments because of the recent uptick in spam. I will respond when I return to town and your comments will be published.

Quilting and A Glamping

Ever heard of Glamping? Its a mix of camping and glamour. Inside our large tent was a bed and a lot of amenities for those who may not like to camp. It was a lovely gift from our employees.
I'd like to point out on the empty chair is the 2021 Humble Quilts quiltalong that I am hand quilting!

On our way to our weekend of glamping we hiked to Green Lakes in the Three Sisters Wilderness.
This is South Sisters which is a popular mountain to summit. (I've done it twice)

Looking the other direction is Broken Top. All part of the Cascade Range.
There's Elsa cooling off in the lake too!

Not much quilt content going on in my life right now. When I'm not working I'm enjoying all the daylight hours of summer before it is over. I noticed already it is so dark at 8:30. Boo-Hoo.

Much love

Just a Little Peek

Although I've been covering for an employee on vacation I got a few minutes in my sewing room this past week. Here's a pile of scraps from our fall quiltalong. Maybe called Yankee Doodle, but maybe not. I don't want to disparage my British friends.  :)

A few highlights from last weekend's backpacking trip.

Koosah Falls

Sahalie falls

A great place to stretch out and rest my body.

A cold river to soak our feet and enjoy the outdoors.
(one of my favorite photos)

Have an amazing weekend!

Quiltalongs and Fires

I'll start with the heroes of my state.
Approx 900,000 acres have burned in Oregon the past few days. Small fires got massive really fast and overtook complete towns. My heart is so heavy right now because of the destruction.
It seems when disasters happen people jump into action to help each other. It doesn't matter if you are left, right, white, black, rich or poor. You need help? Yep! Let's do it!
A facebook group has grown to 50K where people are hauling animals and people out of harm's way. what do you need? How can I help?  This part makes my heart swell with pride for humanity.
Here's a few photos that spoke to me today.
I
You may love em or hate em but loggers do help keep our forests healthy and they jump right in when they see their livelihood going up in flames before them. That is a giant tree that man is cutting.... and it's on fire! He is cutting it before it falls and causes injury or death.

Got cows?

You may call them rednecks or cowboys but they've been working non stop getting hundreds of animals to safety. I call them the backbone of America.

Another powerful photo of men and women doing their job. I'm so thankful for them!

Speaking of women..... my heroes too!

A group from Mexico came to help! That is so touching. I wish I could give each one of them a hug.

That's my world for now, but I do have another video!
So let's change gears.

I share today how I choose a quilt to reproduce for our quiltalongs.

And a link HERE

I hope you like it.

Much love and hugs
