Newsy Monday

Good morning!

I'm not sure if/when I mentioned it but I recently helped a daughter clean out some of her mother's quilt room. I was hoping the investment would help fund my next mission trip. 

I've committed to going to Uganda this June! I haven't formally been approved but am planning on it for now. Thank you all for the support you've shown me over the last several years! 

So, book sales, photography (not my strong point) passport renewal, Etsy shop has been my focus the past several days.

Quilt Books for Reference and Inspiration

As I am preparing to do online lectures I realize I have to add a few books I refer to in my 

Reruns; Quilts Inspired by the Past lecture. 

Dating Fabrics is one I refer to when I want to make a period quilt or would like to date some fabric in an antique quilt.

I refer to this one when I was trying to crack the mystery of Jill's (my NJ friend who passed away) quilt blocks. I love telling that story and how she snuck her style into my humble quilt.

And this one has been researched. Karen and I made a sampler in the style of Ohio Miami's Valley some time ago. It is one that is quirky and humble and I absolutely love it!

What are a few of your favorite quilt books for reference?

PS, A piece of good news- It looks like I am closer to getting a refund for my flight to Peru! It has been a royal pain, but I feel like I'm on the downhill slope!! I had booked on Latam Airlines which made it a bit more difficult to deal with. I filed a complaint Monday with the Dept of Transportation and low and behold they okayed my refund on Tuesday!!

 Okay, this isn't a book but a lovely pattern by Hoopla recreating a quilt in the Shelburne Museum. I didn't realize how small these applique blocks are. My fingers are too big and clumsy for this. $5.00 SOLD

Friday, Friday!

It seems the more I get done on this quilt, the more I want to do! Thanks goodness for cold weather!!

 My quilting lines may not be correct, but hey, that's pretty good lookin' hand applique! LOL 

 One more block complete.

 I have had a really busy work week and haven't had a chance to respond to comments left. I was asked for more details about my hand quilting. Along with everything else I do with quilting, I'm sure there is a better way, this just happens to work for me. Everything in the above photo is kept on the coffee table, so when I watch a little evening television it is ready to pick up and quilt. (I don't recommend foreign films with subtitles!)

John James size 11 needles. They are tiny. (about 3/4" long)

I have to admit to using a variety of threads on my large, slow hand quilting. Right now I am using this Mettlers 50weight cotton  in ecru and I like it a lot. It doesn't twist or break.

Then I have my dollar store magnifying glasses (needing them more and more!) my Frixion pen, which irons off (yes, controversial, I know) and super simple metal thimble that is flat on the top. 

I also have an inexpensive  14" wooden hoop that I use.  I've tried various types and styles of hoops and this works for me.

Not much new on my Instagram feed this week. I've been busy pushing auto parts instead of taking photos. I did sign up for a class at Sisters- taught by Sajuta- Yay! and I loved the book "The Taming of the Queen". I cannot remember who posted about it on their blog, but thanks!
