A-MA-ZING Applique quilts! Photo heavy!

I brought my son and his girlfriend to the Portland airport yesterday and thought I'd go to the 

Northwest Quilting Expo since I was in the city. 

Cathy Erickson had a display of her Baltimore style applique quilts and they were the finest I've ever seen in person! Enjoy!

Fun quilting motifs. No sashing, but piping!

Some of the blocks were signed

Tiny tiny intricate piecing!

 These were no larger than a dime!

This one had some interesting (and confusing) blocks.

Any thoughts about what is in the basket?

It doesn't seem to belong to this quilt. There is also a broderie purse at the top that seems a little out of place.

I love the scallop quilting to fill the background. That is what Beyond the Cherry Tree had too.

Look at this amazing edging!

 The inking details in many of the blocks were really fun to see!

Each one was unbelievable! hand micro stippling!

 The placement of this block in the quilt was a little tilted. I liked that! See, even these crazy intricate quilts have adorable quirks!

I've been doing a few things here and there this week, but not as much as I'd like. 

 Wool applique on Cheri's sampler. I'm doing a whipstitch so it's going pretty fast.

Ohio's Miami Valley Sampler Quilt- Made in Oregon

 Here is the finished Ohio Sampler quilt. Pieced in Oregon, machine quilted in Ohio.

The quilt was a mix of both of these books. 

My friend and quilter did a wonderful job on this quilt.

It was fun, historical and whimsical!!

Here is an antique star that I appliqued onto a linen French General backing. 

I have been considering the quilting on this one and decided simple lines was what I wanted to do. If you click on it you can see the lines I drew with the frixion pen. I plan on working on it this weekend.

Doesn't our dog look relaxed? It was fairly early morning and he was enjoying the shade. His two leg surgeries are catching up with him and he is showing his age.

We are heading to the mountains for our first camping weekend this year. They are going to be few and far between, so we need to get away while we can.

Basket of Blessings

Benjmain Biggs Applique

 I've got two more blocks to applique then I'm calling the center DONE!

As much as a fan that I am for red and green quilts I'm glad I changed it up and did red and blue.

I plan on doing the scallops. That is what makes this quilt so special!

More Vintage Quilts

Here are the quilts Claire purchased this year at Sisters. 

This one has quite a few older fabrics in it. although a quilt is dated from the newest fabric.

This one was great. The zig zag setting is stunning. I like what the maker did at the top to make it a little longer. What's not to love about the fan quilting?

Sarah S made it. Too bad she didn't date it as well.

And this one, which the fabrics seem to say 30's, has a setting that is used in much earlier times. Large 4 block quilts are another favorite of mine.

Even though the top one isn't in great shape, it is a favorite of mine because of the variety of fabrics.

Although I didn't actually sit down at the machine, I got some marking done on a quilt I NEED to finish, so I did get something quilt related  done.
