String Quilt Number 2!!

Last years was our stringalong adn I have them both completed! Whoop!Whoop!

Thankfully Diane's schedule was open and what these quilts needed were all over patterns.

Machine Basting for Machine Quilting- FAIL!

If you are in the Humble Quilts Facebook Group, it's likely you've seen this. 

If I machine quilt I usually spray baste. My stars in a time warp was a large quilt so I thought I'd have it basted by a long armer and then quilt it myself. I have plans of taking this quilt with me to Ohio next month, so I thought I better get busy.

My plan was to do a simple cross hatch. That plan was stalled very quickly. I snipped and stitched, snipped and stitched. Made it through one row and started another. Snip, stitch, snip, stitch..... Okay, this is a bunch of crap.... 

So, I thought about my options, text  Diane Knott to see what her quilting schedule looked like. 

Laid it out on my bed and started removing the basting stitches. Took it downstairs later and removed my quilting stitches. 

Kevin couldn't help notice the threads on my Bible..... Casting out the thread demons!!

Packaged it up and it is now on the way to Diane. 

Even experienced quilters make mistakes!!

This, That and a Winner

I started the quilting of Windmill for mom and baby this weekend. I only have the outside border to quilt. My plan was to have it all quilted this weekend, but hubby had an errand so we braved the crowds and went to Bend for lunch and a giftcard.  That pretty much shoots the whole day.

We got the finale directions of the wool applique mystery which you can read about HERE and HERE if you'd like. I have to add the wavy borders and a hanging sleeve and it will be complete.

And the winner of the IQF pile of goodies was commenter #173  Profile name Quilter! Congratulations! Thankfully she left an email address and she has been contacted.

Snowballs in Summer

Finally finished a quilt! I started this one after P&B Textiles sent me fabric called Friendship Ring by Evonne Cook. You can see my first post HERE

I'm really happy with how it turned out. Kim McCray in Bend quilted it for me and I like the fans on this one.

Of course, my backings are always a mixed bag.

I love this pink fabric. The quilt has been washed and measures approx 54" square. It's a good lap size. 

This quilt is for sale and the money is going to MSI to bring clean water to a community in or near Trujillo, Peru. That's where I'll be going in November.  Shoot me off an email if you are interested or would like more info.

Groovin' Mid-Week

I've worked on a few projects this week but am not ready to show them yet. My Gwennie inspired medallion center is done. My Porch Quilt, block one is done. 

My Rebekah Smith wool appliqué mystery for May is done. Unbeknownst to me I was not supposed to show it on my blog.  I hope Humble Quilts facebook group will give people the benefit of the doubt BEFORE going all crazy and being rude. I took my post down as soon as I saw I wasn't supposed to post it. I'm so sorry to Rebekah for revealing her lovely design. 

Now, what I can show. I got my snowball quilt trimmed, label sewn on and ready to add the binding. 

I'm almost done with Cheri's scrap basket quilt.

Friday! Friday! And a Book Winner!

Helloooooo and happy Friday!

I picked this up at the quilters on Wednesday. I'm hoping to get the binding on it this weekend. I do believe I will put this one up for sale at Sisters this summer. I was showcasing the reproduction fabrics by P&B Textiles. I like it a lot and am glad I chose the fan quilting.

Here's a few more blocks from Cheri's quiltalong. I hope to get them attached to the other half this weekend too.

Bounty of Liberated Baskets

So excited to have another quilt finished! 

 Here is my liberated basket quilt I'm calling Bounty of Baskets, started in a class with Gwen Marston in 2012! it measures approx 50x50.

 I wanted to keep the quilting really simple so I did vertical straight lines about 2" apart. I wish I would have done them a wee bit closer.

Instead of marking or using the Hera tool I wanted to try this bar that is packaged with my walking foot. Is this what it is supposed to be used for? I lined up the bar on the previous stitch line and watched that while I sewed. The quilting is a bit liberated too! LOL

I have two more little quilts closing in on being finished! I love starting the year out this way.

Fabulous Friday!

It seems like this week has flown by. Last weekend I had company and a meeting with my CPA and ended up sick on Sunday afternoon so it felt like my days off went fast. I'm hoping for a little slower weekend. 

I may have showed this already. It is part of a design by Rebekah Smith. 

Here's the first month of a mystery quilt designed by her as well. She has shown us the inspiration photo, but I still don't know what to expect.

 I've quilted my liberated baskets and am calling it Bounty of Baskets. I actually might quilt one more line in between.

I'm going to finish it first before I decide. 

Label and binding ready to be applied. 

Here's a sneak peak at the backing of a little quilt top I made (UFO). I am going to get it layered and quilted for the doll quilt swap, which I'll be setting up soon. In Memory Of

In memory of my dear friend, Jill Reid. 

Some of these blocks were found in her sewing room and they were passed  to me. You can read about it HERE.

The fan quilting was very appropriate for "Jills" quilt

I completely ran out of the fabric she was using and her best friend sent me the corner lighter blue. I wrote about it on my blog HERE. I look at it like Jill's rogue block.

My sister was here this weekend and one of her good friends passed away a few years ago and they gave her the start of this quilt. She brought it to me and I added the patches for the tree and ground.

Her job was to embroider around some of the patches. She said she was DONE and brought it over to figure out the next step.

I trimmed it and we figured out backing and binding. Her plan is to bring it to her local quilt store (in Nampa, ID) and talk with them about quilting it.  She would like to give it back to her friends daughter before the year end.

I thought it was appropriate to show both of these quilts today. I know they will be treasured (I certainly will treasure Jill's) and very special. 

My Valentine evening was spent in the ER!  I've got meds and am on the mend!

Ohio's Miami Valley Sampler Quilt- Made in Oregon

 Here is the finished Ohio Sampler quilt. Pieced in Oregon, machine quilted in Ohio.

The quilt was a mix of both of these books. 

My friend and quilter did a wonderful job on this quilt.

It was fun, historical and whimsical!!
