AAQI and then Some.

I told you I didn't get much done on my AAQI quilt. On the flight to Orlando I did get this block appliqued. I only ran into two problems. I clipped all my seams ahead of time so I wouldn't have to worry about my scissors being confiscated. There wasn't anything smooth about my applique. It looked pretty rough.

You can still see that isn't isn't really smooth, but I did a machine buttonhole in black to prim it up a bit. I think once it is quilted and washed it should be fine...I hope.

Problem number 2? My applique thread comes on a prewound bobbin, which happened to fall between my airline seat, or under it. I'm really not sure where it went, other then not with me! I did have an end, so I wrapped it around my needle package. Around and around and around......there is a lot of thread on that bobbin! I never did get to the end!!

My mom has been feeling a bit bummed because everyone has gone on vacation except her. (My hubby must not count) Her good friend and neighbor moved to a different complex so she has been really down. I am taking her to the Oregon coast today for a couple of days.

She loves the beach and is so excited!! When I called to make reservations I told them to give me a ground floor doors that open so if she cannot get out and walk much she can sit outside and enjoy the view. I'm pretty sure it won't be this clear when we are there, but I hope we can at least see the ocean. I have to admit I'm not as excited as she is. Conversation with her is difficult at best because of Alzheimer's.  My daughter is coming over tomorrow for the day which should help.  Think good thoughts for me please.
That's my week in a nutshell.

  3. I'm not only thinking good thoughts Lori, I'm saying a prayer for you and your mom.

I don't clip my applique...am I doing it wrong? Well maybe a tiny bit at the deep V, but that's all?

  5. I will think good thoughts for you, great and strong and beaming thoughts. I admire and love how your daughter is participating as well. I can't know how this is for you but I believe it matters - the effort and the love. Sending you a big warm hug that's filled with support. The DD kind so tie it around your neck else it'll slip right off.

Cuteamous block and I like how you worked it out with the buttonhole work. You're so full of skill.

  9. It is touching that you will do this for your Mom, in spite of how difficult it may be for you. Never easy when the roles are reversed and the parent becomes the child. Thoughts and prayers go with you, your daughter, and your Mom.

  11. You might try a pair of blunt nosed 3" scissors. Last week I flew to and from Denver from Dallas Love without a problem. I just make sure they are pulled out of the bag and visible in the plastic tub that goes through the scanner. And this is not the first time I've blown with them without a problem.

Enjoy your time with your Mom. I know how she feels when your best friend moves away.

  12. Some clean up person that works for the airline probably has your thread now and stitching sway. My husband left his glasses in the pocket on the back of the seat in front of him. Never did get his glasses back.

  17. Good thoughts coming your way. I hope your mom enjoys the day even if there will be no lasting memory.
It is sweet of you to take her, and I hope it is a good day for you, too.
I had to laugh a little when you wrote about dropping your thread. My thimble went down inside my chair, and wouldn't let me find it. I cut the fabric underneath the chair to get it out! And, it's only a $2 thimble!

  19. Good prayers and strong thoughts for you. If your mom is excited so be it... you are the care taker now and we all know it is not easy. Really, we KNOW it is exhausting no win time of life. So like some one said you enjoy the bits (ocean smell, small smile, your needlework) and pieces. Your mom is probably of the generation that did not have "fun" but enjoyed themselves when the routine was different. Your mom rasied a special daughter who is rising to the ocassions and is letting her daughter see some of the later chapters in life. We are here for you.

  23. Sometimes we have to take things in our stride, responsibilities etc.

Hope you can find the silver lining and maybe the thought of doing a good turn for your mom will make the trip a little more pleasant.

    Take care.
