This, That, and Somemore....

Good evening! Wow! The two word verification sure struck a chord with quilting bloggers!! Seriously I thought I'd be the only one that was miffed at those dumb words! If you do not know what I'm talking about, read my last post and you'll be up to speed. I am very curious for those who have changed and no longer do word verify if you start getting spam and if it is being published as a comment. Please let me know as I do think blogger has gotten better at blocking the junk.
This is a little sneak peak at a test project. I told you I was previewing some books. Well, I have to test the directions don't I? I thought that was part of the job. You'll see more of this next week.
I'm still working on these little blocks and they are starting to add up.
Here is my little stack of cheddar bow tie blocks. They have taken a back seat to some other projects that I'd rather be working on.
Here's the original quilt for sale in Sisters, Oregon this past summer.

Here is an email from Liesel in Australia that she sent me some time ago and I forgot I wanted to post it with the bow tie progress.
"I had a lovely surprise reading your recent post about your progress on the cheddar bow tie quilt inspired by the one you saw in Sisters. I loved that quilt so much also, it was different from many of the others that were on display that day. It had a such a variety of beautiful fabrics in lovely colours. I loved it so much that the quilt is now residing in Sydney Australia. The quilt that you are making inspired by the quilt looks fabulous & I love all the different cheddar prints. I can’t wait to see the finished quilt."
Thanks for the lovely blog
Kind Regards

You are a lucky lady Liesel to be enjoying that quilt!!

Everyone, have a wonderful weekend. Come back on Monday and I'll review my first book!! You are going to love it!

  5. The double word verification is so frustrating...took it off my blog but I am keeping my fingers crossed!

  6. I was getting three spams a week! so still not sure about taking it off...

How cool the owner of the original found you - that's fabulous!

  9. What beautiful 16 patch blocks. They look to be tiny--I know perspective is sometimes deceiving in photos, but I like what I think I see. : )
How interesting about the quilt that inspired the ongoing cheddar bow tie craze.
I removed the word verification from my blog--so far so good.

  13. Love your 16-patch blocks! They do look small. Can't wait to see what you're up to.

I removed the word verification from my blog months ago and haven't gotten ANY spam. (I hope I didn't just jinx myself!) It took me a while to find a blog with the word verification to really understand what you meant in your previous post. Wow! That was painful.

Do you think Google/Blogger is trying to tell us something??

  14. I like your book recommendations. Look forward to the review. The work verification is driving me nuts. Turned mine off for now. Found that I had 2 entries in "spam" but they definitely were not spam.

  15. Love the color combo and fabrics of your sneak peak.
I'm sure the bowtie will make it to the top of your to do list some day. It is a fun one. Neat that the new owner of the original contacted you.

  17. Looking forward to reading your review, and if those little 16-piece blocks are typical of projects included, it'll be tempting.
How very interesting that the new owner of the bowtie quilt would contact you. Thanks to the internet for that, but no thanks to the internet and Blogger for that ugly 2-word verfication. I shut mine off, and so far, no spam (knock on wood).

  18. I have not had the word verification for months now and do not get spam comments. Looking forward to the book review.

  19. I don't have the word verification thing on my blog and haven't for over 11 months.

I rarely get notifications of spam and most goes into the spam file for me to deal with when I get around to it.

Never has a non-spam comment been dumped in the spam file... and I've never had a spam comment posted on my blog.

  20. I'll look forward to your book review. The projects look like fun! After reading your last post, I decided to remove the password that bloggers would have to enter to leave a comment. I hadn't come across the "new" 2-word verification then, but I did this morning. I had to type it in twice because I couldn't tell what the letters were the first time. I agree it is a big pain.

  21. I'm new getting into quilting and I love your site and now follow!

I dropped the word verification about a year ago and have never had any problems.

  22. I turned the word verification off yesterday after reading your post. I got two spam comments after that...but they were caught by the blogger spam filter so at least that works :-)

  23. *mmmm* those are some yummy little patches.
I am still finding some blogs with WV - I am on a one attempt and out plan for leaving comments *argh*

  24. You are working on some great projects and so much fun to get them into rotation! Love them all...

  26. Hi Lori, Love the project progress. The 16 patch is looking good. I stopped the WV on my blog awhile back and haven't had any spam either. I don't mind the single word ones but the greyed out and double words are too hard to figure out sometimes and I give up.

  27. DANG!! I guess that means we won't see that one hanging a second year in Sisters in the antique booth?! RATS! :cD

My tie blocks grow slowly while working on other things

  28. Since I get notified by email when a reply posts on my blog, I can delete it immediately if it's spam. If people do begin getting spam, we can go to approve comments so I doubt it will be much of a problem.

  29. Looks like its going to be a good review. I took off the word verify and received 1 spam comment, but it went into the spam folder. No big deal to me, but yes, I didn't comment once I saw this. Hopefully this isn't the open door for spammers. Geez, don't they have better things to do, like quilt?

  30. I love the 16 patch in your first photograph--it is a wonderful underused block with some tension in not being symmetrical.
    Great fabric choices.
I too disabled the word verification on my site--let us hope the ne're-do-wells of the blogging world leave us alone!

  31. Ooooh, I know which quilt that you're testing directions for. I was gonna test those directions myself tonight! :-)

I linked to your word verification post yesterday and have had comments back from some of my readers that they've disabled it. I disabled mine a while back and do get some spam, but Blogger keeps it from showing up on the blog and that's all I'm concerned about.

  32. I like your checkerboard blocks. I went ahead and took off word verification per your suggestion. Thanks for your input on that.

  33. no, you're not the only one miffed. i have a pretty hard time reading them and often mess it up and have to go back and do it again . . .

i think i'm enjoying that new book already~! can hardly wait to see more.

  35. I turned my word verification off too.
Those blue 16 patch blocks look really pretty. I can hardly wait for the book review.
I am glad that the bow tie quilt has a good home.

  36. I get the spam comments in my email as I get all comments forwarded to my email, and I just delete them, they also get put in the spam comments on my blog and I can delete them from there as well, so far Blogger has stopped all the spam comments.

  37. Those are really nice pieces you have in the works!

  40. I like the colors in your book review quilt. I can't wait to see more. I am all cheddar right now so I would be pulling out those cheddar bow ties. Hmmm, might have to do some of my own.

  41. I see curves in those little blocks. They blocks look tiny. How big are they?

This quilt blogging leads us to unusual happenings. Who knew you would hear from someone who purchased a quilt you had admired, photographed and put on your blog. And from someone so many, many miles away.

  42. Love the 16 patches! And the bow ties are adorable! They sure are stacking up!
