Family Quilt

Here's a quilt that was either in my family or my husband's family. Simple, humble and meant to use. Maybe they started with the hexagons to make a flower garden and thought that was too big of an undertaking. I'll never know. It's tied with bright pink yarn!

Here's the back of the quilt. There are 2 sections that are the pieced Dresden plates. I haven't looked closely at this one for awhile and it looks like I could do some simple repairs on it. The batting is a flannel blanket.

I'm such a Dork!

I certainly don't claim to know what I'm doing here in blogland. I just saw today that 2 comments have been left. I'm so sorry for not responding sooner.
Thanks you for leaving a message Carole and Betweens. I'm glad you found me here!!
I'd like to make another red and white quilt. They really are one of my favorites and can't figure out why I only have one of them!!

Vintage Quilts

There is just something about a vintage quilt that I love. I deeply admire the old fashioned applique with tons of quilting, but I also love the simplicity of quilts that warmed the house and home. This quilt I picked up at the local thrift store. I may have paid a dollar for it. I'm sure it was meant to go in a dog house or to soak up an oily spill in the garage. I'm so glad I snagged it!!

My daughter has it now and uses it to stay warm. (One of a few quilts that she has.) Unless I'm buying an heirloom, I want my quilts and textiles to be used, washed and loved. I have yet to have a quilt fall apart in the washing machine.
More vintage quilts to come!

Kansas Trouble

I bet you're thinking I made a trip to Kansas when I made this one? Nope, I just liked it and thought it would look great in red and white. This was a block exchange and considering all the blocks we're made by different ladies it came together pretty well. Bonnie Hunter worked her quilting magic on this one.
