Quilt-A-Longs Part 1

It all started with the antique quilt just like this one.
Cheddar Cheese & Crackers
Then Strawberry Fields.
And Midnight Stars.

Here's the fabrics I chose for the block our next quiltalong.
Here's the two pinks I used for the background. They turned out a bit similar once the top was all together. See the different pink used in the antique? There is just a little bit of it, but it adds a bit of a surprise.
Here is my rendition.

Some of you may already picked your fabric. For the blocks get into your scrap bin because it won't take much, that's for sure!!

I kept the colorway the same as the original. The whole blocks- 2 brown, 2 navy, 2 red. The half blocks and quarter blocks all brown.

We will start with the whole blocks. You will need approximately;

Print: 1- 2 1/2" x 8" strip for each whole block
Background/Pink: 1 fat quarter will be plenty or enough background to make a fat quarter.

I'll be back with cutting instructions next.

I need to get my sample quilted. Now that BTCT borders are done that is next on my list.

PS If you have a great idea for a name I'd love to hear it!!

  1. Hi, Lori.
Happy New Year to you. I wan`t you to know even though I have not commented on your blog, I have been following all of your beautiful posts. I will be better at making comments on blogs I like more often this year. And yours I really like.
It is very tempting to take part in your sew-a-long. I have friday off this week, and will look through my stash then.
Best wishes for the new year.

  14. Hi, Lori,
I thought of Bubblegum and Buttercups but I saw someone suggested Pink Lemonade and I think that is a cute name also. Have a great afternoon!

  16. I was surprised when I checked my fabric stash to find no appropriate pinks! Since I've just promised myself not to buy new fabric for awhile, I'll be using a slightly different colorway - but I'm excited nonetheless!! I love doing these little quilts as it's very satisfying to see results after just a few hours of cutting and sewing.

  17. Pink lemonade was my first thought.
After your previous post I pulled out some 3" shoofly blocks I was gifted last year. A great block.

  20. I plan to participate, but since I'm not home, I may have to wait a while. I know I have yellow at home, but I think I'll buy some pink here as I can always use it on other projects. I might get yellow too if I see one I really like. Thanks for the QAL!!

  22. Pink Lemonade was my first thought too. I made your other three QALs so count me in for this one as well! I am trying to make 2012 a work-from-the-stash year and will have no problem here.

  23. I won't have to buy anything--just work from my stash. This one looks like great fun. Thanks for organizing one again, my favorite way to start the new year.
Maybe "Berries and Cream" or "Cherries and Cream" -- but I really like the suggested "Pink Lemonade."

  24. I need to dig through my repro fabrics to see if I can come anywhere close to these colors.
I like the pink lemonade suggestion and the lemonade with berries is great. Combine them into Strawberry Lemonade or Raspberry Lemonade.

  25. I like the Pink and Brown too. The only thing better might be the Turquoise and Brown. I'll have to look through my stash and Join you in making this cute little Quilt. Thanks for the QAL.
