We are going to get this far on this step. You say it doesn't match?? Nope, it sure doesn't. Look at the quilt in my header. It is goofy, crazy, and really doesn't match. I'm using bits and pieces that I had leftover from that quilt. I want you to make a little quilt that you will love using fabric or scraps that make you happy.
Start with any 6 1/2" block.
Now we need a variety of scrappy half square triangles. (36 actually) If you want to make many the same use this method.
Here's a fast way to get a big variety using scraps or your 2" square bin.
Pair up 2 squares, right sides together. (these are 2")
Draw a line diagonally through the center,
Sew on each side of the line.
Cut in two on the drawn line.
Trim to 1 1/2" using your favorite method. Make 36.
Add 8 hst to each side of the center.
Add 10 to each of the other sides. Your block should measure 10 1/2" square. Put on your design wall and admire your work!!
It's Thursday and there are 3 days before running my first marathon. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was nervous. I'm excited too and looking forward to resting already!!
Hugs to you all. Have a lovely weekend.

i'm wishing you well as you prepare for and run your marathon. i know that you are going to absolutely 'kick ass'~!!
ReplyDeletestill considering my middle block but clearly i better get it figured out already . . . if i were to make more half square triangle units then i needed for this border is it safe to assume that i will be able to use them later on in the quilt? not that i'm an over achiever but i would like to try for more variety within that first border and as each pair of squares gives two matching units i think i might like to save at least some of them for later on in the quilt.
have an outstanding weekend Lori.
:-)

I was a bit skeptical at the outset but found an ugly farmer's wife block that is the right size, added the borders but not until I added the hsq's was I committed. I love it. I can't wait for the next instalment. LOL. Hope your marathon went well.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it Bonnie!
DeleteI'm dying know....how did your marathon go?
ReplyDeleteWere you able to finish?
Hope all is well and you are resting up for more
Happy Sewing
Thanks for the Quilt -Along. I found an ugly block, and wound up making a fall colored block. Mine is posted on my http://matryoshkamom.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI had a little time and energy this AM. I grabbed a handful of scraps and weird fabrics others would throw away. My block is GORGEOUS. Thank you. You're an inspiration as always. This is SO easy! It looks immensely difficult, but not thinking is the key...don't go matchy-matchy. Play and use happy fabrics.
