Sally Post Ta-Da!

Binding attached and sewn down! Quilt washed! ta-da! This was another one of my long term projects,  couple of years, at least. It is a terrific quilt to end 2014.
Thank you Gay for the pattern! I love it!

You may be wondering why the 3 rows are facing outwards rather than the traditional "all one direction so you can see them layout". That is how the original antique was and I liked that, so I copied it. I know many of you were working on this quilt, did you do it the way Sally did? Or the more traditional way? I'm curious.

I tried several times to get this section to turn and it won't under my power.

This block may be my favorite.
The quilting on this one was done by my friend Kathy McCarty in Ohio.
After I dragged it around outside to get decent photographs I washed it. Thankfully I put in color catchers.

If you are interested in this pattern Gay from Sentimental Stitches has reproduced her antique into patterns. She does a very good job of it too. Happy weekend!

  1. Applause! I have not sewn my quilt top together yet but had thought about setting it like the original quilt. Now seeing yours, my mind is made up to do it that way.

  2. Your quilt turned out beautifully! Don't you love Color Catchers? So glad you put some in with your quilt. I've forgotten to use one before and discovered if I rewash item/s while they're still wet with a Color Catcher, it will still remove the color that ran!

  3. Your quilt is beautiful Lori! I will lay mine out more traditional and since I need it for a King bed I made 4 extra wreath blocks for the corners. Hopefully my calculations work out!!

  8. Your quilt is beautiful and I love the setting you chose. It makes the quilt a little more interesting and really gives it an old-timey feel!

My Mom made this quilt years ago but she changed the shape so that it was rectangular rather than square. She omitted a few blocks and I think she made some of her own. The were all set facing one way.

  18. Yea!!! Congratulations on your Sally Post finish. I was happy to find Gay and her patterns after JT2. Using her pp pattern to continue on my 1880s sampler. I was so tempted to order the Sally Post pattern but I'm just not as good at applique as you are. Gorgeous! Kathy did a beautiful job of quilting too. Makes me happy to see this beauty finished!
