More Quilt Show Inspiration

This beauty was purchased as a top for $10 at a thrift store!!! It was a huge quilt! If I could only be so lucky to find a gem like that.
The power of a one patch and hand quilting. So simple but really beautiful.

Here was another humongous quilt- this time yo-yo's!! All painstakingly hand stitched to the backing.

I love homespuns and this one was really terrific. There's a lot of movement and secondary patterns going on here.

Another wonderful reproduction quilt.

This one was actually my favorite. The centers of the stars were made from a family members dresses from the early 1900's. I'm a real sucker for sentiment.
Have a wonderful week!

  2. Beautiful quilts, if only we were lucky enough to find any antique out there these days. Someday we might be so lucky.

  3. I was really surprised to see the pink quilt in this post. That's the quilt I'm getting ready to start making! The pattern I'm using is in Quilters Newsletter, November 2008 issue. The pattern is called Civil War Crossings. The quilt I'm looking at in this magazine has borders on just the top and bottom of the quilt. I like the picture you posted the best, and will probally follow that example, because it has borders on all four sides. I was glad to see it made up that way.
    Thanks for sharing.

  4. What great quilts! What a $10 find! I bet the quilter who pieced it would be happy to see it now so beautifully quilted and appreciated. I sure like the star quilt too - who has dress scraps from the early 1900's just kicking around?? I wish!!

  6. I love the homespun tumblong blocks/stars quilt. I enjoyed seeing the lone star quilt. I have a cupboard full of antique or vintage quilt tops that I've collected over the past 30 years. I've quilted a couple and used the ones in poor condition as inspiration for reproductions.
Although I enjoy new quilts, there's nothing like an antique quilt!

  8. So first I was going to focus on the power of hand quilted one patch especially because it's so true and the quilting is so "wow" isn't it but then I kept on (I like to look for one to focus on in my comment0 and I came across the wonderful reproduction quilt and thought to myself: "Self, this is the one to leave a comment about" but the self got snagged when scanning further and reading about the sentiment in the star quilt. Oh dear, Lori. That tugged at my heart strings and made me think to myself: "Self, why can you do something like that for your flaky family?"

hee! *karendianne. who obviously has the WRONG attitude about that!

  23. Fabulous quilts - thank you so much for sharing...the Stars quilt made from early dresses - oh my, what a story that quilt could tell! That is what originally brought me into quilting - that connection with the past and all those "unknown quilters."
    Just beautiful!
