I'm pleasantly surprised that my church looks similar to the one in the photo. Our town is celebrating its centennial and in a roundabout way I was asked if I'd like to make a block of our church. I'm actually not committed at this point but told the woman I'd play around a little and see what I could come up with. I started by scanning a photo on the cover of our church directory (photo top left) and printed it out.
Then I used a sharpie to give me an outline of the important parts of the photo.
Then I traced those parts onto freezer paper.
Then I used my scanner to enlarge for a 12" block. I cut out the pieces using them for my applique templates.
I ended up eliminating the bell tower. Mine just looked like a lighthouse....I'm afraid there aren't any of those on the high desert!! I need to add some flowers or grass or something??? I will call the women today and get any more particulars that I may need. I may be adding the church name. But I feel like I gave it my full effort (even if I didn't really know what I was doing) and think it actually LOOKS like the same building!! What do you think? Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.
Impressive! It definitely looks like your church...nice job!
