I went on a little mini retreat at my friend's last week and she has always loved this little floral jewel. We chose some lovely fabrics and she whipped this beauty up in no time.
Here is another small quilt I finished. Kathie sent me a little kit to make it up. I machine quilted between the hst and did a simple cable in the border. I also practiced machine sewing the binding down. My friend, Randy, always does such a nice job and uses a decorative stitch. I didn't have a stitch I liked that much and it seemed to make my binding really flat. It was fun to try something new, although I think I'll stick to hand sewing.

Oh I love both quilts!! The machine quilting is beautiful on the first quilt. Nice choice. The machine quilting you did on the hst mini quilt is perfect. Both are darling!

ReplyDeleteThe Hake quilt is flat out GORGEOUS - especially the quilting!!! Is this a small quilt? I can't tell from the photo that the binding is flat on the HST quilt - it looks really nice. Most likely, it looks really nice in person, too. Your new 'time management' method is certainly working for you!

ReplyDeleteI can see why the colors of the first quilt appealed to you... very nice. I never thought of using a decorative stitch to sew down binding on small quilts. I want to make a number of mug rugs and will be using that tip to be sure.
ReplyDeleteLovely finishes! I just cannot wrap my head around machine binding so I will continue to hand finish them forever. It's my favorite part of making the quilt.

ReplyDeleteLori, the 2 Elizabeth Hake cushions could not be more different, although they are similar. I love your quilting! When I sew my bindings down by machine, I use an extended "S" shape. I've never thought they were flat; I like the texture the machine stitching adds, actually. Next time we're together let's do a binding together! And you can show me some of your machine quilting. You are amzing!!!

I always think about machining my binding but think it would be just as hard, if not harder, to do by hand so... well... now I have more reason to stick with the standard way, eh?
