Sue even had the quilting patterns, which I followed fairly close. I had planned on hand quilting this but already have too many hand projects. I think the machine quilting turned out pretty good. You should be able to click on the photo to get a better look.
I went on a little mini retreat at my friend's last week and she has always loved this little floral jewel. We chose some lovely fabrics and she whipped this beauty up in no time.
Here is another small quilt I finished. Kathie sent me a little kit to make it up. I machine quilted between the hst and did a simple cable in the border. I also practiced machine sewing the binding down. My friend, Randy, always does such a nice job and uses a decorative stitch. I didn't have a stitch I liked that much and it seemed to make my binding really flat. It was fun to try something new, although I think I'll stick to hand sewing.
Part 4 of the Midnight Stars quiltalong will be posted on Friday.
Lori, how cute! I really like the second one.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to start my Midnight stars tomorrow!
:)
Oh Lori what wonderful little quilts...you've been a very busy girl!
ReplyDeleteDang...you are busy whipping up these cuties!
ReplyDeleteWhat beauties! You did a fabulous job quilting them.
ReplyDeleteI love the little quilts! The quilting on the medallion especially, is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteThe wide border on the half square triangles really makes the quilt IMHO. :)
Oh I love both quilts!! The machine quilting is beautiful on the first quilt. Nice choice. The machine quilting you did on the hst mini quilt is perfect. Both are darling!
ReplyDeleteWhat great little quilts. Wonderful quilting too!
ReplyDeleteThe Hake quilt is flat out GORGEOUS - especially the quilting!!! Is this a small quilt? I can't tell from the photo that the binding is flat on the HST quilt - it looks really nice. Most likely, it looks really nice in person, too. Your new 'time management' method is certainly working for you!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Lori. How big is the first quilt?
ReplyDeleteI can see why the colors of the first quilt appealed to you... very nice. I never thought of using a decorative stitch to sew down binding on small quilts. I want to make a number of mug rugs and will be using that tip to be sure.
ReplyDeleteLovely finishes! I just cannot wrap my head around machine binding so I will continue to hand finish them forever. It's my favorite part of making the quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to make something a little bit different now and then, isn't it? Your quilt is very pretty, and I love the triangles! Vicki and I are retreating this weekend, so I'm excited to work on your quilt-along! Btw, your directions are always so clear and well illustrated - thank you!
ReplyDeleteMachine quilting really speeds up a project's finish! Glad you're having results you like. Love the little projects, especially that star one.
ReplyDeleteAre you sleeping at the moment Lori? Your projects are lovely, those hst are always a winning combination.
ReplyDeleteI like the second one too and for some reason have a lot of little red hst's lying around these days, lol.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the colors in the first quilt are very soothing. I've never been able to sew on a binding completely by machine so congrats for attempting it.
Gail :)
They are both great little quilts. I love the border fabric on the second one, particularly.
ReplyDeleteLori, the 2 Elizabeth Hake cushions could not be more different, although they are similar. I love your quilting! When I sew my bindings down by machine, I use an extended "S" shape. I've never thought they were flat; I like the texture the machine stitching adds, actually. Next time we're together let's do a binding together! And you can show me some of your machine quilting. You are amzing!!!
ReplyDeleteLori, they both look great. I love the border fabric on the pink one. You got that kit made up quick! I totally missed the sew along due to some issues here at home. Wonder if I can catch up! It looks like such a fun project.
ReplyDeleteI like both of the medalion quilts. Your machine quilting looks wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteYour mini from Kathie's kit is lovely as well. I've never tried stitching binding down by machine - it sounds like a good idea.
Both are very beautiful !Congrats on your quilting. Hugs
ReplyDeleteHi Lori,
ReplyDeleteIt's SO exciting for me to see you making up my Elizabeth Hake mini quilt.I think I prefer yours to mine!

Best wishes from Sue,one of your UK followers
What I love about that Mini Quilt is the way the center fabric pulls your eye right in! How neat.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the extremely cute little quilt from Kathie, too. What's not to love about that? The binding experience was a great share. Thank you! I always think about machining my binding but think it would be just as hard, if not harder, to do by hand so... well... now I have more reason to stick with the standard way, eh?
Oh Lori, wonderful little quilts! Your are an inspiration, thanks for sharing your lovely work.
ReplyDelete:) Carolyn
Hi, Lori. I really liked the little red and green quilt when you posted it before. So, yesterday when I saw that it was finished, I whipped up one of my own. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBobbie
Love your mini quilts! They are both adorable!
ReplyDeleteThat counts for some nice finishes! The quilting looks great and I love the one from Kathies kit.
