Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts in New York City
Taryn is having her own red and white online quilt exhibit. (What a fantastic idea!)
Here's my contribution.
This little quilt is about 12" x13" and copied from an old doll quilt. I put the finishing stitches in the binding while out of town for business this weekend.
This is a quilt put together in 1999. It was a group quilt where I chose the block and the turkey red color and other quilters made the blocks and sent them to me. On their month they could choose what block and colors they wanted. I really adore this quilt and I think it's because it is red and white. One of the center blocks has a darker shade of background and I love that variance.
They are both stunning. I have always loved flying geese & Kansas troubles is a neat pattern too. I've never made a 2 color quilt, but maybe someday I will.
ReplyDeleteRed and white quilts are beautiful! I think I need to make a red and white quilt too!
ReplyDeletemmmmm, delicious. I love the rich contrast of a red and white quilt. Flying geese are such a favorite of mine!
ReplyDeleteThe quilts are striking... what treasures they must be!
ReplyDeleteBoth your quilts are so striking! Makes me want to make a red and white quilt as well. Particularly like the one with Kansas Troubles blocks. Oh, so many temptations!
ReplyDeleteWhat stunning quilts! Someone in my guild is organizing a bus trip to NYC for the red and white exhibit, but it is on a day I have to work - darn! Glad there is this online exhibit. I'm enjoying it. Thanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteLOVELY RED AND WHITES!!!! gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy heart just fluttered when I saw your quilts. I just love both quilts so much.
ReplyDeleteHey, I have an idea...you should do a red and white quilt along...oh please say you will :)
Two color quilts are always so graphic and exciting. But so hard to actually make because there are so many fabrics available! A red and white quilt is definitely on my list this year. Thanks for sharing yours.
ReplyDeleteLove your red & whites, I think they are my fav of any combination. I think all this excitement will result in many 2 color quilts.
ReplyDeleteLori, I love your quilts. Both are stunning. Hugs
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Red and White is my favorite two color combo, I think!
ReplyDeleteYou can never go wrong with red and white. Classic colors, beautiful results!
ReplyDeleteHello Lori! Both of your quilts are wonderful. I love red and white so crisp and are treasures for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks as always for sharing your lovely work.
Carolyn :)
Wow, nice! I looked online at teh exhibit details. It looks like it will be really grand. I would love for them to put out a book. Didn't see one advertised. Lizzie
ReplyDeleteOh, love these 2 quilts! the doll quilt is precious and the KT is wonderful, love the sawtooth border especially.
ReplyDeleteBoth very nice quilts. I think after NYC a red and white has to be done.
ReplyDeleteYou just reminded me that I own a red and white flying geese doll quilt but have absolutely no idea where it is. Hmmm. I like that Kansas Troubles quilt. I've wanted to do one in blues and white for years to hand behind my bed. I think I saw it in the County Living with Quilts book. Thanks for adding yours to the online exhibit!
ReplyDeleteAll of this red an white has me running to my fabric stash...
ReplyDeletebeautiful quilts...thanks for sharing.
Hi Lori.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely visit to my blog!!
There is something special about the red&white combination. Not to menschen beautiful and it gives a great effect to the pattern.
have a lovely evening!
Yvonne
WOW - I love your new header quilt!!
ReplyDeleteYour 2 red and white quilts are wonderful as well. I like the feathers quilted in the border of the Kansas troubles quilt.
This weekend I was so tempted to start a little red and white quilt - I resisted however.
Both red and whites are great - I am amazed that all of your sewing buddies are so precise! Kansas Troubles isn't the easiest pattern; great job. The new header is another good one!
ReplyDeleteThere is just nothing like a classic two color quilt! I especially like the slight variation in background . . . very 'make-do' *s*
ReplyDeleteThose are wonderful R&W quilts! Makes me want to jump right into this! I don't yet have a R&W quilt!
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty red and white quilts! I especially like the quilting on the KT. The quilting on your header is wonderful too. :)
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous! I love both quilts, these are classic and timeless beauties. I need to make one for me.
ReplyDeletebeautiful quilts. oh I love those flying geese and that you didn't make the shirting all go in the same direction!
ReplyDeleteyeah :)

I am inspired by all the red and white quilts...and realized that I do not have any! Guess I will have to make one soon...thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteOh my! Nothing like a red and white quilt to start your heart a fluttering! Lovely quilt in your header and those Kansas Troubles block. And the doll quilt ... darling.
ReplyDeleteIMHO the simpler the blocks the more magnificent these red and white quilts become!
Turkey Red & White Quilts are Truly Luscious......
ReplyDeleteThe red and white quilts are lovely. I so envy your little flying geese. I havwe sooo much trouble with those geese that I have sarted to just avoid them.
ReplyDeleteMight have to give them another try. I have collected some reds and whites to do a quilt. I have also collected some blue and whites. Now I need to collect some free time. ;)
Both quilts you show are wonderful and the Kansas Troubles piece is particularly sweet! Just discovered Taryn's site through your blog so of course had to join in and post one of my antique red and white quilts to her list. What a fun online quilt exhibit for everyone!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
They are both beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteRed and white quilts are just the best and always make my heart race a little faster! Yours are both adorable!
ReplyDeleteI think red & white quilts are high on the list of favorites for many people. I enjoyed seeing yours as well as the other online show. Maybe more people will post their red & white quilts.
ReplyDeleteSince red is my all time favourite colour, no wonder I fell for those quilts! The second is great indeed with the slightly darker background. Love the pattern too!
ReplyDeleteYour red and white quilts are so beautiful, Lori -- I have a special fondness for Kansas Troubles and it looks so fabulous in this combination. The quilting on these is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I am not able to travel to NY to see this exhibit, but it is so fun visiting quilt bloggers who are having their very own red and white mini-exhibits.
Your quilts are gorgeous! I have one red and white from a block swap and I just love it. Reds are my favourite.
ReplyDeletebeautiful~!!~
ReplyDeletethat little doll's quilt is so~o~o~o CUTE~!!~
i agree; the darker background on the one block gives this two color quilt a lovely character.

Red and white quilts have always been favorites of mine. I have made a couple, and feel as if there is another one in me that wants to get out!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love 2 color quilts! I don't know why I haven't made more of them?? Love yours!
