I finished the cross stitch border of the Scandinavian Christmas Block 1. So now I need to make two more small cross stitch snowflakes to go with the churn dashes. Don't mind the wrinkles as I need to give it a good pressing.
I won these books and am ready to pass them along. One of them has the family genealogy of the Circuit Rider quilt. I know a lot of you might be interested in that since it was such a popular quilt. Let me know and I'll toss your name in a hat and draw on Monday.
I read this book and have been deeply affected. I know we all have causes that are close to our hearts but sometimes we have to take action. Sometimes that action doesn't take much time either. The woman of Congo need our voices. Maybe you could do one thing that would have a long lasting impact. Check out the website: athousandsisters.org

  1. Lori,
Love the cross stitch and churn dash blocks - they are one of my favorite, but haven't made a quilt with them yet. I would love to have my name put in the hat for the book. It sounds very interesting. http://quilts-bordercollies.blogspot.com/ is my blog spot and my email is donienefullagar@centex.net. I think I have fixed the no-reply issue, but gave you the above information just in case. Happy Quilting.

  4. Were you working on cross stitch fabric or using regular fabric with maybe the canvas stuff you stitch over and pull out after doing the cross stitch? I have seen the Scandinavian Christmas project previously but hadn't thought about this. I like the look!

  7. Lori,
I have copies of those Uncoverings books already. Do you know the history behind them? A group called the American Quilt Study Group puts them together every year, and all the heavy hitters in the quilt history community write articles for it. It's a very serious bunch of historians, but going to some of their lectures was really awesome. I went for the first time a year ago because their yearly meeting was in San Jose, CA, where I live. Anyhow, just sharing that. Some of the articles in there are very 'academic' though at times for my personal taste when I'm tired and want to read something light, but always very informative as well.
Anyhow, I'm sure you'll find a good new home for them. Have a great weekend.

  8. Your Scandinavian Christmas is just gorgeous. I have the pattern and fabric ready to go but I just haven't had the time. I must move it up on the list.

  9. Your quirky reindeer would look cute in wool, too. I love the colors in the cross stitch and the churn dash blocks. I've read other books about women in the Congo and Sudan. I will avoid getting too political but cannot resist saying it is shocking to me the status of women in some cultures. It's the 21st century, not the 12th.
