My Favs from Coburg Quilt Show

This was a BOM from Material Obsessions

This one was simple, but so pretty. What a great way to showcase RED!

This has always been on my possible quilt bucket list.
These were a few beauties. Overall it wasn't as good as it has been in past years. It didn't seems like there were as many quilts or vendors. Unless Laurie goes back next year I will probably not attend again. That's too bad because it is a very nice venue for an outdoor show.

PS I'm not sure if the sale of quilts is new, but there were 6-8 Pickles quilts that someone had made and put for sale. They really took up space and didn't add to the show at all.

Something to Crow About

One of my all time favorite Oregon quilt stores is on the way to the Coburg quilt show. ( isn't that convenient?!?) It's called  Something to Crow About and is in Springfield. Here are seven reasons to stop if you are ever in the vicinity.

Lots of wonderful wool!
Gorgeous samples throughout the store.

They also had a vendor booth at the quilt show so the store was a little sparse in areas. I like a store that you can move around in without the fear of knocking something over. ( can anybody else relate?)
Easily accessible patterns.
Did I mention beautiful samples?
Mail order BOM and class samples.
And lovely reproduction fabric.  And one of the most important factors of a great quilt store? The friendly employees!

Weekend Road Trip

I was able to make it to the Coburg quilt show and this was my highlight:
Meeting with Laurie, who you met through my blog, a few months ago. She was a vendor at this show. (Sewing related collectibles, quilts, fabric)

My husband drove and I got to hand stitch when we weren't on cornery roads! For you who are following along on the "Flags" quilt, Lisa commented that the USA seal has the arrow and olive branch in the opposite sides as the Patek pattern. Thanks Lisa, I'll be changing mine.
I also got the rest of this appliquéd.

And added cross stitch eyes after getting home.

Happy Monday!

The Eagle Has Landed (In my sewing room)

I'm prepping for the center block of Flags of the American Revolution Quilt. You can find it HERE or check ebay.

I'll trim my seam allowance as I turn it under. I plan on doing the center  as reverse applique with the background showing through.

I had a white background with blue stars but it needed tones down a bit. Leftover coffee to the rescue.

Uh, it doesn't seem to be lining up very well.

My star background is too small! Aargh! I like Jan Patek's designs, but the patterns are about as primitive as her designs.
Larger piece in place, pinned with short pins ready to applique.  When I see it like this, I have to remind myself it is primitive! It's been a while since I've done needle turn applique, so it will be even more primitive!
I'll do the inside curve of the arc first, then the wavy edge, then the reverse applique, then the outside of the eagle, adding the branch and arrow before appliqueing the feet.

For hand applique (and machine) I use size 50 DMC in the color that matches the applique piece.

My favorite applique needles and my sewline needle threader.

I have 7 of you that are sewing along. If you want to do this quilt there is still time.Let me know.

Cathy S from Maryland - no blog
Patty Nordahl- no blog, no email *contact me please

MJ in Michigan is on the fence, but she already has the kit, so why not use it up????? Right?? Right???

August 31st is the first date to complete the eagle center. Who has started?

Oh, Oh, Oh It's Magic.....

If it is at all possible you need to make it to the 40th Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in 2015! There is something very magical about a western town draped in quilts.
Stitchin' Post employee challenge is always on the east side of the Stitchin' Post.  (You can get see them better by attending the picnic in the park on Friday night before the show)

The next photos were based on Kaffe Fassett's book, Dreaming in Color.

What a fun stool!

I hope you enjoyed a few excerpts from the show!

Sisters Quilt Show

Hopefully you are not tired of reading blogs with Sisters Quilt show quilts. These are a small sampling of lovely quilts that "Ring my Bell" in one way or another.

Such a different very up close and personal.  Pretty amazing!
I really adore the quilting in the border.
What a fun and quirky quilt by Sue Spargo.
Fun quilt. But what I really liked was the unique border.

I love the border fabric on this one continues with the theme.

Another cool border treatment.
Cityscape of Portland with the reflection on the Willamette River.
I could tell immediately that this was Haystack Rock on the Oregon coast.

My friend Phyllis orphan block sampler quilt.

My friend Bill's (Wonkyworld)"Oregon July"  in the manland exhibit. Love the pictorial quilting!

Such a fun variety of quilts. Of course I love the antiques but these spoke to me in one way or another. I hope you liked them too.
