European Patchwork Meeting

Look what I'll be enjoying this fall! This is the countryside in Alsace, France where the
European Patchwork Meeting will take place. This show tends to be more modern, but what an opportunity to see France.

My daughter and I have talked about going for a couple of years now and she mentioned it again so, we thought, if not now, then when?

She visited last week and we went back and forth about dates/flights etc.. then she left me this note.
" I really cannot wait to go to France with you. Any way we get there, and however long it will take doesn't matter. What matters is spending time with you and exploring the quilt world of France together."

How cool is that? She speaks French too, so that will be very helpful! We will be in Paris for a few days as well. If you have any tips, sites, museums or textile places we must see, please let me know. If you happened to be going I'd love to know that too.

Happy Thursday!

  5. When in Alsace, first of all taste the "flammekueche" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarte_flambée) and the vine "Gewurztraminer", of course Riesling, too, but the Gewurztraminer is sweeter! :))
And don't let me start about desserts.....
I am sure you will discover by yourself!
I am so happy for you that you can go, I LOVE this region of France, but then again, I love nearly every region of France!

  13. Lori, you will love it ! I love this area, we have a house on the German side about 2 hrs from Ste Marie (Pfalz, suedliche Weinstrasse) and it is gorgeous. Don't forget to visit Colmar, and Strasbourg. Train from Paris to Strasbourg is about 3 hrs.
Food, winetasting (Edelzwicker, Auxerrois, Sylvaner, Cremant d'Alsace, etc.) There is not a lot of accommodation nearby so get that reservation made !!

  25. What a sweet note! And it sounds like the trip of a lifetime! We lived in France for two years while my hubby was on a work assignment. In Montmartre, at the base of Sacre Coeur, there are some amazing fabric places. Kind of a cross between stores and open markets. Google Marche Saint Pierre to get an idea, though you have to see it really. It is an experience. I bought some incredible African fabrics there along side of Liberty lawns!

  30. How wonderful to go to France with your daughter! I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time! If you get a chance, don't miss the Galeries Lafayette which is the most amazing department store. They have a wonderful place (7th floor terrace) where you can eat with a great view of Paris or just relax.
